Depression

    I was wondering if anyone could share their experiences/advice with me. I am literally fine when I'm not depressed. I practically have zero urge to look at P, I'm good at work, good with my family etc. I appreciate everything in my life when I'm in this state.

    When I'm depressed, I'm terrible. I look at P non-stop. I'm emotionally unstable, I feel like a loser and it feels like this state will last forever. I can still see that I have a good life but I feel like shit.

    My P problem is tied to depression. I try to live a good life: I eat well, I exercise regularly. On paper, I have everything going for me. The only things my life could probably use are more sleep and more friends.

    I'm saying I want a cure for depression, what I'm asking is how do people stop depression from making them use P? Thanks guys.

    I also suffer from severe depression and anxiety. Porn is used as an unhealthy coping mechanism to escape or zone out from what we feel, similar to how people who are depressed or anxious may abuse alcohol. I am struggling to overcome my porn addiction, but I know that we have to find other things to make us feel better. I tend to binge more when I am feeling more anxious and depressed. We need better coping mechanisms. Taking a walk, listening to music, meditation. I think also admitting that we are addicts and have a problem is the first step. Next is understanding why we turn to porn and how we can face what we are feeling in a healthy way.

    Porn releases dopamine, dopamine is heavily involved with mood regulation. Continuous use of porn causes your normal levels to become low due to loss of sensitivity to dopamine. Lower dopamine levels result in depression.
    You then want to fix your mood and watch more, which makes it even worse, as time goes by you begin to feel more and more depressed, and spend more and more time with porn. Basically definition of addition.

    Excessive porn use is always tied to depression, its not just in your case. You are messing up mechanisms that regulate your mood same way drugs would.

    If you gradually stop porn use your mood will recover. But you will feel worse before you get better, but once you feel better - it will be allot better.

    I don't have magic pill for anxiety and depression as I suffer for them my hole life. I can only tell you what works for me to elevate the symptoms. I came across Dr. Stephen Ilardi's 6-Step Program to Beat Depression Without Drugs. His solution to the problem of addiction is basically change of lifestyle, to cure depression and that should lead to curing the addiction too: Dr. Stephen Ilardi:"We were never designed for the sedentary, indoor, socially isolated, fast-food-laden, sleep-deprived, frenzied pace of modern life."

    Basic steps of this program are:

    1. Physical Activity (Exercise)
    2. Omega-3 Fatty Acids
    3. Sunlight
    4. Healthy Sleep
    5. Anti-Ruminative Activity
    6. Social Connection

    I started to see positive difference in my mood and anxiety levels after a few months of following these steps. It's not an easy program to follow, but I was desperate enough to try implementing it in my life no matter how bad I felt and it was pretty bad. Even staying out of bed was a burden at some point in time. The most important thing with this program is to be patient and follow steps daily without excuses. For me combined with hardmode, things improved mentally and physically. I'm not saying I don't have black days or anxiety attacks anymore, but I do know if I do get a visit from black dog again I'm not hopeless anymore because I can defend myself by putting on my trainers and go for a run or "attack" hills with my bike until body exhaustion. That puts dog to sleep ever time.

  5. I saw a documentary about how important sunlight is. Even being in a car cuts down light levels enormously.
    Apparently the best time to be outside is the morning, plus blue-light from screens is bad at night..

    Well, go to a docter and make a blood test, how high your vitamin d is. Then buy Vitamin d high dose vitamin k complex and cink and omega 3. Combine this and you are already a different person.

    Buy the book from david burns about depression, use it, you feel better.

  7. if you want to lift mood with supplements, use an antidepressant which in US is over the counter - St.Johns Wort
