    Hello,

    I am new here.
I really want to minimize my my porn consumption, even stop it completely if possible.
The goal is not to have a bad idea of what sexuality is, because it could impact my life with my gf.

    My main concern is :

Is it ok to masturbate if i don't watch anything, if i just use my imagination ?
This way i am not watching porn and thus I do not further distort my view of sexuality.
Moreover if i only imagine things that are not from porn videos i feel like it could be ok.

But i am not really sure. And i already tried to do this a couple weeks ago and it failed completly, i went back to watching pornography.

I hope all this was clear, i am not the best at writing english

    Thanks for reading
    Any advice is welcolme

    Hello,

But i feel that the issue is more about the porn rather than the masturbation.
In the same way that having sex with someone is not considered as bad

    Thanks

No. Because masturbation is just wasted effort. It's just wasted energy. Take it from someone who's jacked off a lot. It's all a big waste. Make love to your gf; Tell her you love her, maybe even make her your wife based on how well behaved and matronly she can be... but don't masturbate.. Use the energy you would use on useless sexual fantasies and self love, and take the sperm who's creative energy you would have wasted and write a kickass science fiction novel or start a garden, or build a bomb shelter. Trust me man. Sex = good. Masturbation = bad (or at the very least pointless.)

Btw just see how long you can go on masturbating with your imagination and not using porn (my guess is it won't be that long).

    Hum okay i see.

I'm still a little in conflict with this idea that masturbation is bad but I'm going to think about it. It is contradictory with what I have always been taught at school/radio/internet, that masturbation was natural among young people.

And for masturbation with my imagination, it could work.

What do you mean by "creative energy"? I do not understand.

Hey there, welcome to the forums!

Don't believe everything you hear from people on this forum. They often sell their opinion as "facts", although it's mostly just ideology they're offering. Always question what you read here(also question what I write!).

Back to the topic: Be asured, that there are plenty of people here, who hold different opinions on the matter of masturbation.

For my view on masturbation, I'll just copy a response I wrote in another thread a while ago:

    Hi,

Yeah i try not to believe everything i read.
Thank for your answer, it's pretty complete.
I agree with you on almost all your points.

I think i will stop porn but not masturbation for 2 weeks, then i will come back to write down the results

  8. I think you should try to focus on your girlfriend and enjoying yourself sexually with her. However, I don't subscribe to this notion that masturbation is bad and you should never do it. My advice to you if you have to masturbate is to put your phone and computer away. Lie down and imagine your girlfriend being with you, and masturbate over her.

Make sure your life is fulfilling, though, and you're still achieving everything you want/need to. Don't just waste all your time fapping, as that will ultimately end up with porn.

If it's a one off here and there, I think you'll be just fine. Good luck.

if you're used to PMOing masturbating without porn will seem bland and boring. this will either lead to you stopping masturbating completely (as sex is much superior) or going back to porn to enjoy masturbating completely. masturbating without porn isnt really bad, but it is pointless and wont work if youre used to using porn

Erectile dysfunction statistics were practically non existent in men under 40 before 2006. In 2006 porn tubes sites went online, which meant you could get unlimited access to high speed internet porn videos. Before 2006 the ed rates in men under 40 was somewhere around 2%. In 2006 the ed rates in men under 40 jumped up to around 30%.

The main problem is the level of sexual novelty. Being able to click and keep getting unlimited sexual content. Before high speed internet you couldn't do anything like this. Which is why there was no ed in young heathy men before high speed internet.

So yeah masturbation on it's own isn't necessarily harmful, no matter what anyone who is brainwashed and doesn't understand the science says. But masturbation might not have any positive benefits either. It remains somewhat neutral. But masturbating to excess even without pornography could be a problem. But before high speed internet much less men were masturbating to excess, only masturbating when they were actually horny. Which honestly probably is something like once or twice per week. But because of all the artificial sexual stimulation these days guys aren't masturbating because they're horny. They're masturbating because they want their next hit of dopamine.

But masturbation even without porn might be a problem for guys recovering from brain changes caused from years of PMOing. As simply just masturbating could be somewhat reactivating those porn pathways you're trying to heal from. Also if you're masturbating thinking about porn then you're definitely reactivating those porn pathways you're trying to heal from.

If you need to watch porn/artificial sexual stimulation or think about porn/artificial sexual stimulation to masturbate then definitely don't do it. Are you able to psychically have sex with your girlfriend? If your able to psychically have sex with your girlfriend but can't masturbate without porn then this does sound strange. Are you masturbating to porn before having sex with your girlfriend?

If you're having regular sex with your girlfriend then I would say your better just getting your sexual release that way, and trying to avoid or drastically reduce masturbation. As for the porn and artificial sexual stimulation, cut that out your life completely.

Thanks you all for the answers, i know what to do now.
    I will :
    1) Stop P completely
    2) Only M when i really really feel the urge to do it or if i can't see my gf for a very long time. And I'll try to keep the numbers of M as low as possible

I will keep you informed of my situation in a few weeks if you are interested

  13. MO with no P is better than PMO. If beating P first and then beating MO works for you then that's awesome! If you decide to MO, avoid any fantasy that is 'porn like'. This won't help you at all. I personally made it 46 days with no PMO, then I decided to MO. While I felt fine and I could continue, I missed the feeling of getting that 'sex drive high' where I have all this energy that isn't being released. P is very bad, MO is not so bad but not great. If you decide to MO, make sure that you control MO, and MO doesn't control you.

I’m going to slightly speak against the grain here.

I MO’d for the first time when I was 14 years old. I PMO’d for the first time when I was 16-17 years old.

There is a tremendous difference between the two. Human Males have been MOing for Millennia and had no problems with ED whatsoever (unless they were abusing fapping)

Natural MO consists of imagination. Where you are creating a first person vision in your brain of having sex with a lady who you adore a lot. It’s very satisfying when done occasionally and when alone and through your mental power.

PMO is a different creature altogether. It gives you a third person view of sex and fapping while watching HBBs getting fucked can trick your brain into believing that it is you who they are having sex with. PMO is a form of voyeurism.

PMO damages your thought process and screws up the chemicals in your brain (dopamine being the primary one) PMO is the problem not MO.

Now if you’re struggling with PMO/PIED then your best bet is to select a date and go cold turkey and stop both PMO as well as MO. Why to stop MO you might ask? Because your brain is still hooked to the stronger version of getting off i.e. PMO! You might not find MOing as appealing during the initial stage just after quitting PMO and hence I’d strongly advise to not MO until you believe that you have made significant progress following the cessation of your addiction to PMO.

  15. The age old learning concept. With or without visuals. I think it really depends on the person who masturbates to it. I know for myself that I used to masturbate better with a porn visual than without a porn visual. The way I was always able to get started was with a porn video to get me hard and start jerking. Then another video to finish me off. I always found it harder to jerk off with no visuals cause it's more of telling a story and how you want the story to go. I've done that before and it was hard, cause I had to think of the person, how they reacted before hand, during and after it all. Overall it's up to you on how you usually masturbate and if you deem you need to change it.

You will get mostly "dont do it" line of thinking here. I talked about this topic number of times.

If you can have sex with relative frequency like once a week, then you can hold it and focus on sex.
If you can not have sex frequently you will be fighting your body, you will not be able to focus on things you need to do once tension is built up enough. Your entire life will become focused on thinking about hold it, resisting it or something related.
Withholding sexual stimulation is similar to hunger, except hunger goes away after you do not eat for 2 days and desire for sex just never goes away. Just imagine being hungry all the time and when you somehow forgot about it you catch smell of food.
Yes people report more energy and other benefits, but not everyone mentions all consuming hunger for sex and how much attention and metal work is needed to maintain this.
So being hungry makes you really motivated but its not a pleasant state to be in everything you do is shaped by that.

My suggested rules for masturbation are do it when absolutely necessary this means you do it infrequently. Only when sex starts to eat up allot of your thoughts. Focus on self and goal is to orgasm not edging for half an hour.

Listen to your own body and decide best approach to take, balance is always somewhere in the middle, going extreme in one direction is just as bad as going in to the extreme in the other.

Hello! Like others said above, it's mostly opinion.
Personally, I think masturbation and porn are totally different and have different side effects.
Porn causes PIED and objectifying women.
Masturbation causes depersonalization, depression, and lack of motivation. (For me)

In my personal expirience, MO is not bad neccassarily. But I can turn it into a compulsion if I am not careful. What helped me was not masturbating for the first month free of porn to give myself a reboot and go cold turkey. Today I have about 4 months clean off of porn and I do MO about once a week. But I personally do not think of anything sexual, because I know I will take it to a compulsive level if I do. For me, it has been really cool to get to know myself better (I am single) so it has been a good way to just be intouch with my body and sexuality. I dont think it would be weird to think about your girlfriend either (I probabaly would if I had one) but anything past that becomes a fantasty which is dangerous for me. So in my personal expirience, MO isnt bad if I am being intentional. The real addiction for me is Porn and compulsive MO if im not being careful. Hope this helps!

    Why do you masturbate?

Don’t tell me it’s just to get your sperm out. It’s not. I remember jerking off just hours after having sex. I did it because it made me feel in control or made me feel good when I was down, anxious, stressed or overwhelmed. It was an artificial fix - my life didn’t get better. I just got distracted. I was less motivated to do anything about other issues. I felt like I deserved that “break.”

And even when I M without P, I would inevitably slide into P... sometimes, I would stay away from P for weeks and months at a time, but eventually the pleasure i got from M just wasnt enough anymore.

Sexuality is a fire. It needs to be carefully controlled or it will burn up your life.

I humbly suggest there are better ways to work on emotional and life’s issues.
