    Hello,

i was wondering what the differences between PMO and real sex are, besides obviously one being real and one not. Why do you get side effects from PMO but not from sex? Does something in your body actually distinguish the two? For example. Why do some people who PMO everyday have lack of energy, less motivation brain fog, eye floaters, visual snow etc etc. But people who have sex everyday dont see the same symptoms? Or do you get side effects from both? In which case some people would need abstain from Sex as well? As if it was more of just sexual exhaustion?? If anyone can clarify for me i would really appreciate!

If there is already a thread like this i couldnt find it and i apologize for making this one. Please link if there is already one. Thanks

  2. Good question. Hopefully we'll get some clarity on this..

  3. The effect of novelty is a strong factor. You can pump as much dopamine as you want and when something starts to be boring you can always select different actress or look on harder stuff or even try escorts. You can PMO almost always when you are stressed or scared, so it is ideal coping mechanism. What is more, it is impossible to have sex with 50 girls at the same time but really easy to find porn compilation. Your brain is used to sex, but not to artificial stuff like that. To sum up, porn can affect stronger your brain, so it is highly addictive and always available.

Thank you for your reply. I understand everything you said about PMO being highly addictive and always available. However are you saying that the overflow of dopamine that comes from PMO is what causes the side effects? Because our bodies are designed for sex and not PMO obviously.

What about just over-masturbation? See in my case, i have hardly ever watched porn and wouldnt say im addicted to it whatsoever. But i have been excessively (1-2 a day) masturbating since the age of probably 13. I am now 17. And i have all the side effects of someone who is addicted to porn.(lack of energy, less motivation brain fog, eye floaters, visual snow etc)

Hopefully that makes sense. So in my case what would cause these side effects? Would it still just be the overflow of dopamine from masturbation even without porn? Or would it be something different? If i would have had sex 1-2 times a day for the past 4 years instead of masturbating change anything? Would i still have the side effects regardless? Which takes me back to sexual exhaustion.

I would like to think that with sex, you have a connection with another feeling human. With porn you don’t. (I suppose if you have a random hookup, this doesn’t apply to you)

For me, with that connection, I’m not just thinking about myself but about pleasuring her. There is none of that with porn for me and to me, that is the big difference.

Absolutely agree. Huge difference. But what physically differentiates Sex and M (no P). Why do you get side effects from over masturbation but not from "over-sex". (Over-Sex might not even be a thing but hopefully you get what im asking.) :)

There are people who have the same problem with sex. They are addicted to it and treat it just like porn. Many of them constantly cheat on their SO, and constantly have different partners. For me the big difference between M and S it’s just being into the other real person present during it. I don’t have the same side effects with S as I do with M. Social anxiety, brain fog, etc.

    Edited to add:
I suspect you throw a random person who I don’t care at all about into S with me and I am only concerned about myself, and it would be no different for me than P.

I was wondering the very same thing when I started nofap.

My ex-girlfriend wanted to have a lot of sex. I was very productive (drawing and making music) and kept a really successful nofap-streak until she and I had sex for the first time. We had sex several times per day. I got tired and lazy, got up late and could not concentrate at work anymore. I felt almost like before nofap. I was concerned about that and actually want to "keep it down" but the lack of testosterone turned me into a whiney little p***y who is afraid of his girl.
My views on sex changed drastically thanks to nofap. I used to be kind of addicted to sex and I thought having a lot of it with your gf makes you the man. But I found out, it only makes you her slave.

My conclusion is: Yes it can be equally "bad". It is good to regulate your sexlife. Not unlike masturbation. Having sex is the best when you had a beautiful day with your significant other and it happens once in a while, isn't it?

I would also mention that if your having sex with a partner and their is any intamacy or closeness your going to both receive higher levels of oxytocin than someone who just pmo.

  11. People still try to take a scientific approach to making love...let's do better.

PMO and sex (which usually means fucking like rabbits to most people) can have the same negative side effects, because both are done with superficial emotional connection to the device of pleasure. They are done without regard for the other person's pleasure, and that selfishness is rewarded with lethargy and weakness.

Focusing on the partner's pleasure over your own results in a more gratifying experience. Some people get it (usually selfless people), others never will (narcissists).

  12. I certainly wasn't getting any sex at 17! It would have been better if I hadn't masturbated. Take some time off.

  13. They are both the same in terms of being activities that release dopamine in your brain, the problem is when you get too much dopamine, which is more easily achievable with porn, where more dopamine is just one click away.

No they are not the same, and the reason is our natural reward system. I recommend watching this video

personally i was at a point where i was regretting every time i masturbated, starting feeling bad and wishing i didn't masturbate as soon as i finished. This never happened to me with sex.
