Do porn flashbacks ever go away?

My flashbacks really diminished a lot, to almost none.

I still have flashbacks. Sometimes a porn scene from even decades ago will flash into my mind crystal clear as if I had just watched it. I wish they'd go away but I suspect they won't. We just have to learn how to deal with them properly.

 

No its like with ex girlfreinds, its impossible to forgett completly.

 

I can probably mentally playback verbatim scenes from softcore movies I watched many times since the early 1990s (hardcore porn never did it for me), as well as a lot of stuff that most people would not classify as porn that I found arousing. The stuff I kept coming back to over the years is still with me. Some of the more recent or not-as-favored material is starting to fade. For instance I can't remember the names of some of the actresses in scenes I discovered late in my PMO career, even if they were among my favorites at the time.

 

This reminds me of the feelings I had when I deleted all my porn videos that I had saved. I didn't want to see them go. They were like friends I could turn to at any time to make me feel better. Now of course I'm handling negative emotions in healthier ways.

There is one specific actress that comes to mind in flashbacks more often than others. Unfortunately when I see someone in RL that fits her description the images come back. I have to start concentrating on other things when that happens.

 

The worst thing is that I can now find those old porn movies on the internet.

I find the porn of today to be awful, but I still have “fond” memories of porn from the past. The actresses on screen do not age even through the scene may have been filmed over 20 years ago.

I think of a scene in the past and I am on my smartphone trying to locate it.

When I was younger, I had to get in a car, drive to the nearest video store, bring the tape home, watch it and then return to the store to exchange it for another. If the tape had 10 scenes I may like two or three of them.

With the internet, I can watch only the two hot scenes and then move onto another title without any effort whatsoever.

Memories of porn appear to be my biggest impairment regarding my recovery. Thanks for bringing up this topic.

 

No, I don't think they can ever "go away." However, I visualise things like this as though your mind is a tree, and each memory is an etching into that tree. Memories like these will always stay carved into you, but you can keep growing and replacing your bark until you become bigger than them. Eventually, those memories will still be present, but are so negligible that they won't bother you.

 

I get flashbacks occassionally. Often in dreams. Last night i dreamed i was hypnotized (a fetish i had), I noticed that they occure gradually less often, but it will take time.
If you get flashbacks at daytime, just acknowledge them and let them go. DOnt fight them and dont indulge in them.
