Do streaks mean nothing if you eventually binge?

So say a guy got a streak of three weeks, but then at the end of the three weeks he basically went in to a binge and PMOed the entire day. Has this 3 week streak basically been flushed down the toilet?

What I mean by this is all the healing that has happened from the 3 week streak basically been completely reversed by this one day of binging? So the guy would basically be back to square one?

This doesn't seem to be what it says on yourbrainonporn. On yourbrainonporn it says all streaks do add up, and your not back to square one after a relapse or even a binge.

But I have a feeling a lot of guys on here will think you're back to square one after a binge?

I don't really know the correct answer. This is why I am asking?

IMO, yes. Three weeks is not very long (even on hardmode). If it was a 3 month streak, he would retain some benefit. :)

What if a guy done this?

I am just talking hypothetically here.

But say there was a guy who was a heavy PMO binger. He binged on PMO most days for years.

Then say this guy kept getting month long streaks where he never went on any porn or artificial sexual stimulation at all, but very occasionally masturbated just using his imagination. But then at the end of the month this guy ended up relapsing on PMO, where he went in to a binge where he PMOed the entire day. But then after this the guy went on another month of no porn or artifical sexual stimulation, he very occasionally masturbated just using his imagination, and then at the end of the month he went in to another PMO binge where he PMOed the entire day. Then say this exact process kept happening every month for a year.

I am only talking hypothetically here. This is not what I want to do.

But this guy would of only been on porn and artifical sexual stimulation 12 days out an entire 365 days. So 353 days this guy would of not been on any porn or artifical sexual stimulation.

From this I would think this guy would of had massive brain changes and made a lot of progress.

    This is only one example.

But it just seems to be on this forum perfection is the only way. If a guy hasn't been perfect or near perfect then he can kiss his chances of succesful brain changes and recovery goodbye.

This is another reason why I am just trying to somewhat except the situation. I am a porn addict, I do have PIED. But I am trying to just live my life and be happy with these things, and not put my life on hold, being very depressed and constantly obsessed with all this stuff.

That doesn't mean I am going to stop tryng to stop porn and artifical sexual stimulation. Because I am going to keep trying to stop it.

But I am going to need to try to stop getting so obsessed and depressed with all this stuff to the point it is dictating my life and basically being the most thing I think about.

A lot of posts on this forum and what I read don't help.

When I say they don't help I mean they make me feel more obsessed and depressed.

But I guess it might just be the reality of the situation. This is what you need to do if you want to completely heal from this.

I just find it very difficult because of the level of obsessions and depression it causes me.

And would you be saying this if you were addicted to class A drugs e.g. heroin and crack? If you are going to 'somewhat accept the situation, live your life and be happy with being a porn addict and having PIED', you're in denial. o_O That's sad.

I have had long periods of success over the years and those periods are good. The addiction still kept a hold on me and grabbed me back to where I am taking many of the risks I tried to take in the past. I know those years of success meant something, but what matters now is I’m addicted still and need to beat this. Eveeything else is me overthinking it, justifying, and analyzing, which has done little to help me.

No I am still going to try to stop porn and artifical sexual stimulation. But I am just going to try to stop getting so obsessed about it to the point it is the main thing I think about, and some days this going on in my head nearly all the time. It's making me feel depressed. Well more depressed than I already am.

The thing with these class A drugs is after the person is clean for a few weeks or months the person seems to come out the other side and is doing a lot better. However I am really starting to think this addiction might honestly be one of the toughest to recover from in terms of how long it takes. I think the PIED certainly takes an INSANE amount of time to recover from.

But I guess that is just the way it is. It is the reality of the situation.

But I can't deny it does cause me to get very obsessed and depressed about it. I'd rather be happy and not have this crap on my mind so frequently.

I think there are always benefits from avoiding porn no matter the period. I also think that the quality of the abstinence matters too. For example I may be avoiding porn but I’m not actually recovering because I’m still fantasizing it using psubs... so quality of the abstinence matters big time.

Though as has been mentioned a three week break followed by a whole day of binging probably won’t have moved you very far though I would still argue that it is still better than just continuing to binge every day.

I'd rather have 2 days free of PMO and 30 days of PMO, than 32 days of PMO.

  9. Short answer: NO!
(Insert any number)/365 days free is better than 0/365 days free.
    (Just my opinion.)

You also need to remember that IGY has a streak of 8 months without any relapses. I'm not sure if this is a streak of no porn or artifical sexual stimultion for 8 months or a streak of no PMO at all for 8 months. But none the less which ever one it is this is a huge streak and achievement. Very well done to IGY.

So naturally IGY is going to think month long streaks and things like that aren't very good. As he has achieved something way beyond that, an 8 month streak.

It's kind of like if someone was benching a certain weight at the gym, and this weight was much heavier than what they used to bench, and a lot of other guys at the gym couldn't bench this or could bench this or slightly heavier than this. These guys are going to think this is good. But a guy that can bench triple the weight of this is going to think this isn't very good.

It's kind of the same thing. If someone is doing much better at something and hears about someone else improving at it, but it is still no where near the level that they're at, then naturally this person will think it's not that good.

Binges only make you more addicted. Which is why i advise against the typical "streaks" which inevitably end in a binge. Random streak into random reward is the strongest reinforcer of a behavior.

What do you exactly mean ultrafabber?

I don't actually plan on relapsing or binging. Like I don't wake up and think I am going to relapse and binge today. But sometimes I do end up relapsing and binging.

I actually got sky high sexual excitment from peaking at porn after not looking at any porn or artifical sexual stimulation at all for 15 days. Peaking at it was the biggest mistake. This lead me in to a binge. I should of stopped, but it was as if I just couldn't after I got a taste of it, that's what it felt like. I basically didn't want to stop. I was loving it. That's just the truth, I was enjoying it and loving it so much I didn't want to stop.

But something else has been worrying me recently as well. I personally don't think this helped, and it actually made the binging worse. As I was basically also PMOing for comfort, to take my mind off what was worrying me.

Obviously now I wish I didn't relapse and binge, and I am back trying to quit porn and artifical sexual stimulation again.

You don't but this is inevitable as long as all of your memories of PMO are good and it always gave you pleasure. For your brain this is the most potent reward and it craves it.

Yeah I would agree with that Ultrafabber.

The excitment and enjoyment I got when I first peaked at this after 15 days, and then the level of pleasure I got from it when I was edging and binging on it was through the roof.

But at least now I am notcing how abnormal it is. It's clearly not normal, and I can feel and notice that now.

I just hope I can stop for much longer, or forever hopefully.

The answer is no. Streaks do NOT matter. Like age, it's just a number that people may have psychological pressures or acceptance about. The solution really is to do something in the real world that is healthy and engaging for yourself and others and remember that PMO is a short term distraction for pleasure like TV, junk food etc. that ends up chronic if you are addicted. You could imagine yourself to be 10 years free of PMO when really you're on day 2. It's all just about how you use your mind, instead of allowing your mind to use you from past conditioning. We're all working on it...
