Do we really need bots in NoFap forums?

Discussion in 'NoFap Technical Support and Feedback' started by gaymonk, Mar 2, 2016.

Are you comfortable posting in NoFap forums, knowing your posts are being indexed by search engines?

I just noticed there are lots of Google/Yahoo/Bing/Baidu/Yandex search bots and index spiders on here inside the forums indexing and keeping track of all the posts here.

For a list of bots logged in currently, look here:

Do we really need our very personal journeys and posts being indexed forever by search engines?

Does NoFap org/site get anything in return for all that forum indexing? If you aren´t getting paid for it, wouldn´t it be better to simply throw ads on here and keep the bots out instead?

I don't have a counter because that would be directly linked to my Google account for them and the NSA to with whatever they want forever.
Of course, it's easy to be too paranoid too... Just hard to know...

That is the reason I don´t want a counter either.

Knowing that all posts in the forums here are being indexed and permanently saved by search engines all over the world is not making me feel comfortable posting details of my NoFap journey. Hmm...

To try to contribute something meaningful to this: I guess this goes to show what a wonderful thing it is to be completely immaculate without any secrets...

Yes, I think many companies delete much stuff but secret services are very likely to have a permanent copy of all of it...

Yes, most search engines and sites maintain a cache history.

Depending on their own policies, this can cover content from several months back, or in some cases (like in Way Back Machine) forever:

  7. Surely indexing by the bots helps NoFap rank higher in search engines and this is a good thing right? Otherwise people would not find the forum and none of us would be here getting help.

Viewing porn is completely legal in my country as it is in most of the world. Not sure why the anyone would care that I have posted on NoFap to be honest...

  8. Unless you have only ever looked at porn using TOR browser or something similar your ISP knows all about the triple anal porn you've been watching. They also know that your real name is not Prince Charming.

Thanks, do you know or know if anyone knows with somewhat reliable certainty what is possible, what is likely and what is not? It seems most positions on the privacy always come with a lot of emotion and bias, supported with just some selective facts...

Search engine indexing allows the site to be found on Google and other search engines, meaning more people can find this site.

I've seen at least 2 or 3 posts here already of people who found NoFap while searching for porn, and so if we didn't have those bots here, that wouldn't happen, and those people would still be PMOing today.

The bots are just there to gather up all of the site to keep it updated for Google.

If you all want more privacy, then just ask the staff to make the forums private to unregistered users, aside from the newbie forum or something. That way NoFap could still be found in search but the posts themselves wouldn't be indexed because they'd not be available to unregistered users. Personally though I have no problems with someone finding this and reading my posts - I even use the username I use elsewhere. NoFap is just another step on my self-improvement journey.

Actually perhaps what might be useful would just be adding a new "Private" forum/sub-forum only visible to registered users. I was going to suggest something similar before, because while 99% of everything I discuss here I wouldn't mind the whole world hearing, there are some no-PMO related issues that'd be nice to discuss in private among others. This'd also help anyone who wants to keep their entire situation private as they could just avoid posting in the public sections of the forum. The rest of us could discuss any more sensitive issues we didn't want public in there.

i think jesusgreen's idea is great, even if it's just to assuage paranoia. it does make sense to be findable, especially with the quality of answering specific question that google, for example, offers.
i'd still be interested if there is any non-emotional, low bias, assessment, preferrably based on past event facts that would justify concerns. just in case anybody knows...

These are not the bots you're looking for.
