I disagree. There's every reason to understand. How can therapy develop and solve these problems if we don't bother to understand them? Fortunately, quite a lot of research has gone into paedophilia, but sadly not yet enough to treat it.

I have a hypothesis. People who have perversions (fetishes) feel as though they enjoy it. But is it really enjoyable? Just as smokers fool themselves into believing that they enjoy smoking (I did that when I used to smoke), the fact is that smoking feels horrible. Smokers just hide that fact from themselves in order to continue the addiction. I believe that it's the same for perversions and fetishes — rather than enjoying it, you are enslaved to it.

I could be wrong, but I believe that it's the case.

 

Yes, and who on this thread is a psychiatrist with the capacity to do that?

It's just a bunch of people throwing around their experiences and anecdotes.
