    Does it really matter?
Hey guys. I hope you’re doing well. So, in this thread, I’m going to address an issue and that is the loss of motivation for rebooting. Once we forget the reason why we’re doing this, we are susceptible to relapse more than ever.
After countless relapses, I’ve noticed that they all had something in common. The reason why I started my journey didn’t really matter when I was horny and wanted to masturbate. I would just turn on my computer and start watching porn. All those compelling reasons and the motivation that comes with them were GONE!
There are many reasons why this might be the case but the most important one, in my opinion, is that we don’t take the time to review and practice what we’ve learned. We have grasped the importance of repetition and practice in many areas of life, such as education, fitness, or weight lifting. We know for a fact if we are not consistent, we’re not going to get far regardless of how much we want it to happen. With regards to rebooting, however, things are a bit different. We read and learn that doing daily meditation and exercising can help us immensely in our journey but only a few of us do those things. My point is in order to leave this addiction we need to change our lifestyle entirely. A lifestyle in which PMO is not an option. If we have tried so many times and failed each time, then something needs to be changed. I’m not talking about linear progress and getting it all right. It’s a work in progress and trial and error are a major part of it. What I really mean is that we should try and practice a new way of living if we are to defeat this addiction. It might sound like an obvious thing but I’ve noticed that many of us including myself struggle to implement these new strategies, although we are certain that they’re effective. It’s like we can’t help procrastinating. I’ve been trying for months to build a habit of meditating daily to no avail.
So, we know that we need to practice what we’ve learned and we need to form healthier habits, lead a better lifestyle in general. However, procrastination seems to be a real problem. What is the solution? How can we find the willpower to do what we put off day after day? Well, research shows our willpower is like a muscle. It means we can train it and you burn through it as the day goes by, so willpower is strongest in the morning and weakest at night. Knowing this, you should make two simple modifications to your daily schedule. Firstly, do the hardest thing in the morning (for me it was meditation) and secondly avoid staying up late. Don’t use the internet at least 2 hours before going to bed and make sure you go to bed around 11:30 and not later. (because your willpower is weakest at night, you are more susceptible to relapse). By staying up late you put yourself in a difficult situation. You have no idea how these two simple changes helped me get my addiction under control. If you want to learn more about willpower and how it works then make sure you read the book “willpower instinct” by Kelly McGonigal. If you are not in the mood it’s fine. Read an article about it online. There are a couple of good articles online that have summarized the book.
I hope this thread has helped you. Thank you for taking the time to read. Best of luck my brethren.
