Doubting NoFap [at least MO aspect]

Discussion in 'Rebooting - Porn Addiction Recovery' started by Deleted Account, Oct 6, 2019.

  1. I have recently been doubting whether masturbation is actually bad for you. Is suppressing your sexual urges even healthy? Is it worth it? No outlandish claims like "I used to be myopic but after abstaining got 20÷20 vision", please. But outside it being a great self-control challenge, what are the actual benefits to this? It seems to me that claims about sexual transmutation and semen retention are complete bogus - most trustworthy sources say it's pseudoscience.

  2. It's not pseudoscience at all. Although many people here make claims that make it sound that way.

First of all, Masturbation on its on, if you're NOT an addict isn't too bad. Being brutally honest.

But what you need to realise is majority of guys come here because they have an addiction. Everytime you do something that feels good, your brain pumps out dopamine more and more. With this happening with novelty in the porn you watch, your brain releases more each time. Soon because of this your brain isn't able to get off to Vanilla porn and your fetishes/tastes escalate.

Most of the guys in the forum have a BDSM/Femdom/Sissy fetish etc. These guys have wired their brains to getting off to pixels and extreme taste.

Here's a good example I read on a thread long ago.

A married man was having sex with his wife and he wasn't hard. The minute he took his phone out to take a picture of his wife's parts he immediately got hard seeing it on his phone.

This is the kind of bad sexual conditioning most men have these days which is why most men here have to quit.

Also note: All the men claiming to suddenly get "superpowers" and confidence etc. It's not a result of NoFap. Basically they feel as any normal human should that's why they feel so good. We've been taxing our bodies too much with PMO. A bit of MO is fine but excessive PMO/MO isn't.

About Semen retention: I can't claim to know the science behind this but all I do know is that it helps me with regaining my sensitivity. And once I am regaining sensitivity I can rewire with a partner. This is how I've been looking at things at least :)

I hope this clears it up :)

Delta-fosb reduces significantly when you resist an addiction for 90 days. A problem with refraining from masturbating for such long periods is you risk getting prostatitis.

What evidense is there for the increased risk of prostatitis? I would imagine a group of ex-masturbators wouldn't be too easy for scientists to find as a study group.

It depends how much serotonin you have. Lack of serotonin causes masochism so I doubt any man who is turned on by dominating girls would get into femdom as they don't get an anxiety rush when they orgasm. Nofap can probably cure an addiction to femdom porn but it won't stop you getting turned on by it.

Lack of masturbation increases the build up of bacteria.

This is exactly the best answer you can get.

If you are not an addict then there is no reason not to masturbate. A study was even done on healthy individuals improving sperm count and mineral content after masturbating for 10 days once per day. We also all know that studies have shown that testosterone levels peak seven days after orgasam

HOWEVER, that being said are you spending hours daily searching through porn and fapping of 5 times per day is BAD. I can tell you I used to do that for years and years.

This type of compulsive behaviour can lead to all kind of problems mental and physical. I even got to a stage where my sperm was completely see through clear.

Most studies done are on regular healthy individuals which in most cases on this Web site does not apply.

So is it good for you? My answer would be yes if done without porn and inmoderation. Remember we are built to have sex and reproduce not to sit for hours and fapoff in front of a computer screen. If you are an addict such as myself them masturbation is definitely not the way to go forward. You will chase the dopamine release more and more until your body starts adjusting to this chaos in your brain and leads you to all kinds of issues.

Sexual exhaustion symptoms are REAL. Studies have been done on that but again it's on healthy individuals that have not been abusing it.

Only YOU will know if nofap is worth it.

There is nothing wrong with MO even PMO, if you can do it in moderate, non compulsive manner. 90-95 % of population is in the non problematic group. We Fapstronauts belong to the other 5-10 % unfortunately. Excessive MO alone is bad for your physical health add adverse effects of excessive P watching to it and you get a serious problem. For me former daily binge (P)MOer since being 13yo abstention is a Godsend. I finally feel free for the first time in 25 years. I control my emotions, cravings and thoughts now, not the other way around as it was before.

That is true, I read the Jiang Ming's study (+145% T peak after 7 days), but the study was conducted on a very short time spam. I couldn't find a single long term study on how complete abstention effects T levels on longer time period. I'd really like to see a study how a year long celibacy effects men's body.
I only have my own observations and measurements taken by my GP before and after being 8 months in monk mode and I do have extraordinary high level of testosterone for my age (1253 ng/dl). My doc couldn't believe measurements from the lab and ordered double check. 2nd results measured (1143 ng/dl). He explained that anything above 1200 is high even for 18 yo and that my values (38yo) should have been somewhere between 300 and 800. He thinks I'm taking anabolic steroids, LOL (I didn't tell him what has really changed). Maybe all the normal T charts are abnormal, because so many men jerk off too often that abnormal has become a new normal. My T reading were between 250 and 300 (too low for my age) taken prior to two monk mode streaks (6+8) just 2 years ago when I was still jerking off like crazy so I'm definitely not genetically predisposed to have high T levels.

With that being said, there are some negatives of high T levels. I became more aggressive so I had to learn how to control my temper (daily exercise, meditation-prayer), my body hair growth exploded (unfortunately not the hairline). It's not very nice body hair popping out everywhere plus I got very oily skin and acnes (taking daily cold showers did resolve oily skin problem to some extend). Friends also noticed changes in my voice. I went from having high pitch voice to bariton/bas. I tell them I'm having cold. Again no way to explain to ppl what has really changed.
