i know this topic as been discussed over and over and its bad for you, but i was just wondering - in the past 15 days i was edging (to porn) without O - did this reduce/increased Prolactin in my body?

Hmm prolactin is something I don’t know a whole bunch on. I heard it on Gary Wilson’s talks. Think it’s a chemical in the brain used to solidity existing neuronal connections. So I guess the more you do something the more solid that behaviour becomes. Read up about it and I’m sure you’ll find out more.

Basically the brain works on the more you act out a behaviour the easier this behaviour becomes (neuroplasticity). So if you’re edging all the time. You’re brain will get used to needing that level of sexual excitement all the time. I also struggle with edging and it leads me to feel like shit after. I FEEL my brain pulsate and certain points enflame and pressurise in my head.

Before you eat chocolate, the reward pathways in your brain light up as if you already took a tiny tiny piece, just to remind you how good chocolate is. The same is true for edging. Your reward pathways still light up even though you don't O. Also, you should make it a rule to not intentionally look at porn since you are on the PMO challenge, not the MO challenge, I suspect you already know this but just verifying for you. Anyways, i'm no expert. IDK what Prolactin is but I guess it does get released into your bloodstream when you edge IF it is a hormone. That's why its called "horny!" good luck Jacob! Edit: According to lif3, my advice is not very accurate. Since you still feel horny after edging, i don't think prolactin is released.

Prolactin, when it comes to sexual activity, is a hormone that counteracts the effects of testosterone (in men) and estrogen (in females). In simple words, rise in testosterone/estrogen makes you feel horny (arousal), which if followed by sexual activity, will lead to a rise in prolactin to negate the initial stimulus (arousal) produced by testosterone/estrogen. Basically, it makes you feel satiated after you've finished your sexual activity.

Here's an interesting little detail about prolactin and masturbation,

"...the magnitude of prolactin increase following intercourse is 400% greater than that following masturbation. The results are interpreted as an indication of intercourse being more physiologically satisfying than masturbation ..."

I'm no doctor but I'm pretty sure edging without O doesn't affect prolactin.

There's this little "broscience" that is found among some bodybuilders and often in gyms. I've heard from guys indulging in it and they testify it affects their performance in the gym. The theory behind it also seems reasonable but I dont think it's ever been tested scientifically.

It goes like this.. these guys at the gym, shortly before their lifting routine, they'll go to the private shower area, and edge for 5-10 mins to increase testosterone. [arousal >> increases testosterone | prolactin >> antagonist of testosterone]. They will edge a few times, but won't O (increase T, but not Prolactin), and then they will go lift weights immediately after.

I will check again to see if theres any legit science behind this. The idea seems decent and should give you an indication of how prolactin is affected by masturbation.
The underlined part above is legit science.

Very interesting. May explain why after sex I feel happier, more satisfied and less guilty than when I fap.
