Exchanging PMO for new compulsive behaviors?

    Hay fellow Fapstronauts,

    I'm noticing since giving up on PMO/sex, that I have started being more and more trapped in repetitive and senseless web browsing, binge movie watching, overthinking, and have trouble getting out of this circle. I've read that compulsive acts are a result of stress and are caused by people needing to reduce tension. In other words, it's an outlet so that people don't have to confront the real problem. It makes sense. PMO does temporary reduce tension and now that it's gone, I subconsciously seek other compulsions to reduce stress. I don't want to exchange one compulsion with new one. Going from one addiction to another is what I was afraid of and is gradually happening to me after nearly 6 months in hard mode, I can see it and have little will power left to control it. I try to limit myself to 6-10 webpages, I need for work and stop DL movies/shows and fail as miserably as I have been failing on PMO. Are you experiencing similar problems? How to resolve them?

    It's simple in theory, figure out what made you feel strongly enough to perform the compulsive behavior and what you can do to change it. BUT it's not so simple to identify what is causing tensions in us. Your thoughts?

    Hey dude, hope your doing ok today.

    I attend Sex Addicts Anonymous and what they have to help create balance and also check our motives is called the circles. This might help you understand what’s what in life.

    The inner circle is the stuff that’s a gaurenteed NO! This for me is no Porn, masturbation, orgasm and no sex outside of a romantic emotional relationship (no anynymous sex)

    The middle circle is things in life that are bad and possibly lead me back to my inner circle behaviors. For me this started with staring at girls too long, thinking about sex fantasies, touching myself too long in the shower etc... but I’ve added other things like certain emotional states, or dishonesty, Loneliness, and other stuff. You might find that binge watching tv will fit into your middle circle. Also, this circle tends to change and morph over time.

    Finally the outer circle. This one is all of the healthy things in life. Mine has meditation, prayer, exercise, reaching out to others, rigorous self honesty. Stuff like this.


    Also, I wanted to mention my therapist told me it’s on to have some outlets in life to help relax or just chill out for a bit. So I thin over time it will all make more sense for you. But it’s great your noticing this stuff and questioning it!
