Feeling Addicted To Porn Can Cause Psychological Distress

Discussion in 'Rebooting - Porn Addiction Recovery' started by Deleted Account, Apr 22, 2018.

  1. hello. i have struggled with anxiety/depression for quite a number of years. when i first stumbled upon NOfap i thought all my problems were solved. now 5 years on still not having managed to stop for good, i think back to when i hadnt heard of NoFap and i never felt this bad about myself. i found this page while searching https://www.medicaldaily.com/feelin...l-distress-lead-anxiety-and-depression-353362.
a quote from the write up “It doesn’t seem to be the pornography itself that is causing folks problems, it’s how they feel about it,” “Perceived addiction involves a negative interpretation of your own behavior, thinking about yourself like, ‘I have no power over this’…We know from many studies that thinking something has control over you leads to psychological distress.”

i seem to correlate my own feelings of it. when i first discovered nofap i thought all i have to do is stop and take my life back. but as the years have gone on and i continue to fail, my esteem has gone lower and lower.

anybody care to share some thoughts over this......

the fact i cant stop porn tells me 100% i am addicted, and its a fact that if i continue to use then i will never have the motivation and or drive to seek real partners.

    Take care

  2. Fapping gives us short-term gratification, but if you add up all those PMO sessions it adds up to nothing fulfilling. The problem isn't only being addicted, it's the loss of opportunity for long-term meaningful experiences. Feeling bad about it is counter-productive, yes, but having clarity about the definite trade-offs involved may empower you to choose a more positive and rewarding path forward.
