Quite a simple notion, feeling good is not necessarily being happy. Obviouse I know yet I think we forget this and the lines become blurred. We often use "I feel good" and "I'm happy" interchangeably but I think its important to remember they are not the same thing. Feeling good is short term, happiness takes time and must be earned.
Addictions fall into the category of feeling good and yet ofcourse they never make you happy.
From fast food to drugs and porn all feel good momentarily but leave you void of happiness in the long run. While its true we can feel both good and happy at the same time, people with addictions often find themselves trading in one for the other.
For example being obese you'll find you associate junk food with not just feeling good but happiness itself.
Whereas I believe happiness to be closer to feeling of purpose, a sense of direction in life.
Which is why feeling good is overated, comfort is not a need and too much will soften your resolve to say no to urges, sometimes it helps to remind yourself of this as comfort isnt really recognised as such untill it is taken away. just try spending a couple nights sleeping on the floor, maybe even take a cold shower.
When you are unhappy you will think of a million things to make you feel good, make elaborate plans, spend stupid money on even more stupid things, claws outstretched in every direction just to feel something. But when you are happy you can wake with hardly any sleep, feeling like crap, with a tonne on your plate and still get through your day without feeling like its all to much. You can tackle anything, and thats the state we are aiming for.
A heroin addict can live in complete misery but feel oh so good when he gets a hit.
So its important to ask yourself on a situational basis "is this about to make me feel good? and if so am I paying for it with my happiness?"
The upside is things that tend to make you happy will often make you feel good later on anyway.
Take apologizing first, its horrible no one likes to do it but once done you feel better for having done it and it makes you feel Like a good person.
Exercising, it can be painful just going to gym and even more grueling once you're there but after you feel good and the main importance is that its not just empty calories its full of happiness to.

Its important for the mind not to label destructive things as happy. We often feel good to hide misery which stops us facing our problems, so with that being said if anyone reading this is feeling unhappy I sure as hell hope you feel bad to :) if you know what I mean.

You're right. I'll think more about this before classes absorb me again. Thanks a lot for sharing, it really jolted me out of my comfortable sadness. Blessings
