Hello everyone, I'm Andy, 27yrs based on the west coast. So I've heard of #NoFap for years now but never took it serious as i thought it was just a Reddit meme, it wasn't until recently that i took a strong look at myself and finally realized that i have a real problem and while researching about it i came across your community.

Like many of you i first discovered p0rn at 13y/o with my neighbor while browsing an online chatroom to meet girls, Eventually i went from downloading p0rn online nearly everyday to being addicted to phone-sex with strangers i would meet on phone partylines, dating sites, snapchat etc. this all went on from 14 to 27 and it wasn't until just recently on Oct 4th that something happened.

Whilst in the middle of my daily PMO'ing routine i had some kind of epiphany and reached the realization that it gave me no pleasure doing this, I felt empty and depressed which lead to evaluating my life and realizing that i have no real friends, i abandoned my education and I was in an unhappy relationship; worst of all the root cause of it all is my addiction to self-pleasure.

I don't know how else to explain it and i know it sounds silly being that it hasn't even been a full week yet but these past couple of days have been my most productive since forever, I never really put two and two together that it was actually my addiction to self-pleasure until Oct 4th but now that i'm on this journey i look forward to the long road ahead and working on bettering myself; I joined this community in hopes i could find some relatable people who are also working on recovering and could perhaps share words of advise with me to make this shift of lifestyle smoother.

  2. Hi Andy!
Welcome to NoFap. Yes, it's usually epiphanies which are the push you need to start rebooting.
Here you'll find lots of resources that might help you. Take what is useful for you, some people look for practical stuff like P blockers, motivation memes and affirmations, accountability partners, some others go beyond, starting a journal, looking into their lives deeper, which triggers do they have and try to understand why they have them. Everyone has their own unique journey.
I think it is really worthy to understand what is porn addiction and how it works, there are several references to books, presentations, ... reading the basics always helps: https://nofap.com/porn-addiction/
Another recommendation is to read the experiences in the Forums (except the off topic ;) ), you are not alone, you are not a freak, there are many people with the same problem you have, reading our stories helps, as it also helps reading yours.
    Good luck!
