Video might contain triggers for some.

Around the UK there's a heated debate going on about the place of strip clubs in modern society. It's a debate that divides feminists: dancers say closures have put pressure on their ability to earn a living, but those against them say the industry is damaging to how women are seen in society.

Really shows feminism is similar to many religions.

Those feminists do have a point that strip clubs, like porn, degrade women. But that’s not my main concern (I’m not saying it’s not important).

Thousands of women and even men are coerced into prostitution from human trafficking, and I wonder if strippers are in a similar boat. That is the issue I worry about.

If people want to freely dance and strip, and it’s their own choice to either perform or to watch, then let them.

Idk. A lot of feminists have good intentions, while some don’t, but I believe they’re misguided on their solutions. But that’s just my two cents.

I have a friend from highschool that strips now. Well, she did in highschool underage illegally, but that's not here nor there.

She makes GREAT money, and it's not even a real strip club. Bc im my state they cant get nude so it's all bikinis just pole dancing. Not to degrading if some woman started to dance at the beach, is it?

& i wouldn't call those people feminists, they dont want gender equality.

Although i can't say forsure, i doubt it. The % of strippers that are forced to work against their will is extremely small. It's a legal enterprise. Prostitution is illegal & therefore has a mass amount of "coercing" going on

Yeah, probably. Maybe I’m thinking in the worst light possible due to horror stories I’ve heard about escorts in Vegas. But that is more of a gray line when it comes to legality than stripping I guess.

My main point is this.. again, I've been saying this for years on this site.

But let people be. People are gonna do what they want to anyways. Making it illegal will make the problem worse. Legislation is rarely the answer. There will be underground strip clubs (w coercing/kidnapping of workers), dangerous customers, & unhealthy conditions.

But y'all really have no idea how long I've been looking for an underground bare-knuckle fight club. I'm talking since i was 15 years old or so. Its on my bucket list

Yeah prostitution has kidnapping/coercing going on all day, 24/7. Which is one of the many reasons prostution should be legalized or, in the very least, decriminalized. But.. I've gotten way off topic on this thread so im ending it here.

    Going back to...... stripping

Idk how I feel about this honestly. Half of me says let people make their own mistakes. The other half of me says try to save people from their own mistakes and make it harder for them to degrade themsleves in that way, because it's damaging to a lot of people.

They say the same about the girls in motorsports too. Yes, they would be better if they were unemployed.

I’m also torn on this issue but I reside on the side that people should be allowed to make their own decisions. That liberty protects me and allows me to live according to my beliefs even though I know there are groups of people who would like to stop it or make it illegal.

I wonder if any of these feminists ever had to choose between being homeless, starving or taking off their clothes for money.

Is it humiliating? to some people yes, but other ppl enjoy doing it. i think we need to work on b=making other jobs more available that way is not something anyone is forced to do to survive. also maybe we should regulate a little more, not what they can or cant do but what the employers can and cant do. that way there is more protection for the workers.
    thats just my two cents

This story is interesting because it shows how not all feminist think alike. People tend to talk about feminism as if everyone who identifies as one are exactly the same but it's not the same. Many of the strippers consider themselves as feminists.

In the video, the women interviewed seem to be doing it by choice. Trafficking is a real thing but I don't know if it applies to this story.

I do wonder why people go to strip clubs nowadays when you have cam sites. In my local town, a new strip club is about to open and some people are upset but I just don't if it will be able to afford to stay open.

    Truth.

What is the difference between a stripper and a burlesque dancer, or a ballet dancer?

They all use their body to express their creativity, they work for it, and they should be paid for their reward.

As long as we will condemn ''bad behaviors'' like those ones, they will always be taboos in our societies. Prostitution have been used for thousands of years, and highly skilled prostitutes in Asian societies were consider almost as highly ranked as nobles.

The only behaviors that should be controlled by law are not consented one (kids, rape) and bestiality.

Feminists should be focusing on equal pay for equal work...

There's a huge difference, and you know there is. Come on, dude. I'm tired of seeing these silly comparisons. Is it normal for a bunch of horny dudes to be stroking themselves at a ballet? I don't think so. everybody knows there is a huge difference between a strip show and a ballet. It's completely obvious.

We already have equal pay. The wage gap is a complete myth and has been debunked time and time again. There are laws that restrict paying men and women different wages on the basis of sex. The "wage gap" includes tons of other factors feminists like to ignore.
