Haven't posted on here for a very long time, I have been using for filters now for about a year and I've come to realise I don't think its possible to ever completely block porn, ive spent hours blocking websites, removing browsers but due to the fact that I would consider my self quite advanced when it comes to computers and what not, I always manage to find a way around these filters, I've literally got rid of my internet access on my devices but now I don't search for porn on my devices, I use friends laptops...which makes the whole process more shameful than it was in the first place, obviously these friends are not aware and would be shocked if they ever found out,

Anyway back to the question in hand, do you think I should keep blocking things or unblock them? currently I think that I should unblock them because all im actually doing is hiding from porn rather than battling my addiction, don't get me wrong I've got to my highest streak by blocking porn but this was due to that fact that when I have urges I have no way to watch porn so I'm forced to fight it but as soon as I figure a way to watch it or have access to a device that isn't mine, the urge becomes stupidly strong and I relapse.

Please let me know what you guys think :)

I used blockers for a long time as well. Although I found them somewhat helpful, I always found ways around them when I really craved porn. I had to learn, that blockers are never 100% bullet-proof. There is always a way around them, especially if you're good with computers. They can be used as a reminder of your goals, but nothing more. If you want to watch porn, you'll always find a way to do it.

That's why I decided to get rid off all blockers a while ago. I now have 100% unfiltered access to the internet at all times. I think it's sometimes harder, since you really have to focus on your goals. But that's the basis of recovery in my opinion. As you said: Most of the times, you're not really working on your recovery, when you just block porn. You're running away from it. But when you have free access to porn 24/7 you're forced to really learn how to deal with triggers. That's a key component of recovery in my opinion.

Some might say, you'll increase your risk of relapse by allowing yourself to have unfiltered access to porn. And there is some truth to that. But I still think it's better to take that risk in order to make progress, than to hide behind blockers and wait for change to occur on it's own. You can't learn how to react differntly to triggers, when the triggers are not really there anymore. But because it's only a matter of time until one will come across some sort of porn or p-sub, you better learn it sooner rather than later.

In the end, you'll have to make that decision for yourself. But I'd suggest to get rid of all the blockers and take your recovery into your own hands.

  4. I think I did invest more time in figuring out how to bypass blockers once I had installed them. The more successful way is to have a mental blocker. You can find something stimulating anywhere on the internet even without visiting porn. The best advice is to consume the time spent watching porn doing something completely else.

  5. Porn block will make porn a "forbidden fruit"
I think it may encourage you to be less self-controlled

If you wouldnt have a car insurance you would be twice careful while driving.
If you dont have enough money you are very careful what to buy.

I think its the same with not having a porn blocker. You rely more on your self-control. You forgot about the need to use it. If you would be using a web full of porn blockers you would be reminded of porn all the time, it would become that "forbidden fruit" ...

  6. Yes, and it simply increases the desperation to have that 'forbidden fruit'.

I like that quote a lot.
Also because it's exactly how I beat porn and I grew a lot stronger over the years than I ever would have had I used blockers and just kept running away from the pain, the pleasure, the stimulation, etc.
Instead, learning to handle it and grow through it helped me be much more at peace.
Wishing you the best on your journey!
