For a long-time porn addict, the choice is pretty stark.

Discussion in 'Porn Addiction' started by chiyu, Feb 27, 2022.

  1. Sometimes maybe I overthink this stuff. But as I navigate the treacherous rebound period between my last long streak and my next one, a simple thought occured to me.

For people like me who've abused porn for most of their adult lives, there is little hope of ever going back to being a "casual user" again. Just like anyone who's been hooked on alcohol or drugs, once you cross the line into full-blown dependency, then no matter how long you go "clean", if you start up again, you just go right back to where you left off.

Basically the choice before such of us is to either give in and accept that you're on an escalating path of self-destruction -OR- walk away from it all, period, and do something else with your life while you still can.

Although it's sad and scary to put it in such binary terms like this, I think ultimately for long-timers like me it's actually helpful. It removes the "wiggle room". It negates the pointless questions to yourself about whether your problem is serious or not. It blunts the lying thoughts that tell you maybe you can just "take a peek" or "moderate your use" or "just stick to softcore/vanilla stuff".

It makes the choice much more clear, so that if you choose to binge on porn again then you know where it's leading you, and that's that. It also points out the importance of the other choice, that you can instead choose self-respect and hope and freedom by turning away from porn entirely.

That "middle-ground", for many of us, is long gone. It is for me, I know this now. So today, I simply choose to walk away from porn, and I hope you do too.

This makes a good point, I think I needed to read this as I try to figure out where to start. I think the sexualized culture that the world has, makes it hard to not rebound.

  5. Does anyone notice the demonic/spiritual aspect of Porn? This porn site is named after a woman in the Bible called Jezebel who is known for institutioning worship of an idol called Ball and Asherah.
According to Wikipedia, in the book of Revelation, the name Jezebel is associated with false prophets.

I KNEW i heard this name somewhere before. Isn't it strange how they decided to name their porn site after a negative Biblical character? I believe without a shadow of a doubt there is demonic influence behind porn and this type of thing only furthers my belief.

That is not to say the actors are demons, far from it. They are Human beings who can be saved, but they are definitely under the influence of demons with these porn sites.

You are absolutely right. I have noticed it hundreds of times, that I can't use porn in moderation. It's either all or nothing to me.

Like I said in another thread, you have to ask yourself this: what alternative is there? There are only two directions you can go from here: you can continue being an addict, or you can decide to work towards no longer being an addict. Only the latter will improve your existence; the former will do nothing but keep you shackled to this situation that you're in right now. By quitting PMO for good, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. That was the crossroads that I found myself at when I knew that I had to quit PMO for good, and I knew there was no way that I could continue down that same road that I had been on for two decades.

Being an addict will get you nowhere, but quitting while you still have the chance opens up so many new horizons. The same holds true for any other addiction.

    Great post.

I've done both forms of "abstinence": cold turkey quitting, as well as navigating that "wiggle room". Both methods led me back to PMO.

Cold turkey lasted longer (2 years) as opposed to "wiggle rooming" (every 2 weeks). I'm attempting cold turkey again - during that previous time, I was anti-relationships even if I felt lonely. Given what I know now, I hope to cleanse myself of PMO and PIED, and either go celibate the rest of my life, or engage in a healthy relationship with a good woman.

The cleansing and purging, however, come first.

With you 100%, walk away, don't look back.

Even if you aren't religious you can still believe that you are worth more than the sensory stimulation your brain processes.

  10. That is the plight of the addict. They can't just have "one drink".

But be encouraged. Once you get far from porn, life becomes good and this goodness fills up where the porn was.

The author summarized the dilemma brilliantly. Take it or leave it. It’s literally a life or death situation as P is driving you to self destruction.

I believe P addicts are prone to addictions, compulsive behaviors like PM.

My thought is to be hooked on a healthy activity like Mozart was on music or Stephen Hawking on science.

I have a question for people who have been clean for a long time. What passion have you found to replace PM?

I know that this forum is not a religious forum but for me that's the crux of it all. For me the driving force is the saying that "To seek God is the greatest adventure and to find him is the greatest romance." Nothing less could wean me from PMO.

  13. why in the world did someone want to go back to porn ( casual use).? porn is a cuckold making software and we addicts know that and that make us different from other losers who use porn (non- addicts) . Stay away from this voyueristic shit for the rest of your life.
