Fun fact: masturbating in Communist regimes

Condemning masturbation isn't only characteristic of religious bigotry.

According to the famous Mao Zedong's biography "Mao", masturbating was perceived as a serious moral offence, with the offenders having, for instance, condemnation slogans hanged on the door of their dormitories if caught while doing it.

Isn't it interesting that the ideology which originally favoured wife-sharing (in the manifesto of Carl Marx himself) was so sexually prudent in practice? The threats of sexual promiscuity to social order are universal and independent of ideology.

Luckily we live in the enlightened times now, where the WHO is recommending nowadays that 5 year olds "discover their bodies" (you can fact check me on that all you want), moms are increasingly willing to raise their kids in a "sex-positive" household by turning a blind eye on their PMO habits (as discussed in these forums), and more and more Western countries are contemplating legalizing prostitution to secure extra tax revenues (!). So basically we are getting closer to Marx's original intention than ever.

 

Yeah, probably. This thread is semi-serious anyway. But it's just funny to realise that even communists had common sense in some aspects. Of course, I'm not an advocate of state condemnation or delegalisation of stuff such as sexual orientation or personal sexual habits, because it's nonsense.

 

Or the Maoists may simply have arrived at the conclusion that anything that brings pleasure and isn't state-approved or heavily taxed should be prohibited, just so that people don't feel too individual and free. It's really difficult to image that the Chinese communists in particular would give a heck about the traditional values, while razing the ancient temples and monuments and burning classical books at the same time.
