Gaming addiction

Discussion in 'Off-topic Discussion' started by Deleted Account, Aug 23, 2020.

  1. I want to quit gaming since its influencing my life as negative as porn.
Does anyone else have this problem, and do you have any tips for stopping?

I stopped gaming addiction 6 years ago...
Since I realized how many minutes, hours and day of my life i wasting in front of a computer screen playing some pointless games

My advice is to try something else that keep you busy, like read a book, running... yoga?
so when you are alone you do something costructive instead of wasting your precious time!

There's an online community called HealthyGamer that help people play games in moderation / quit gaming entirely. There's actual coaching from a trained professional (which I believe is payed?), but there is a Discord server where you can talk to like-minded people. Hope this helps!

Gaming isn't bad, i wish i played more as it calms / relaxes me down and works as a great stress buster.
I wonder why majority of the people here are against it, just can't stand it. It's way different from porn considering you're not playing any game with explicit content or adult rated ones.

My college career and performance was disrupted in part due to Hearthstone. Easy to learn, colorful, rather mindless tbh, and a grind to get into the competitive community. And always being updated. I did not enjoy being in college all too much and I had went through a period of depression where I would binge game all day on Hearthstone. I was terribly unhealthy.

That being said, playing games with clear beginning and clear end have not affected me in that sense. Or Animal Crossing. I have much more control over those. I started playing Animal Crossing on my 3DS when I was transitioning out of Hearthstone, and it actually was enough to scratch my gaming itch.

I'm not against gaming at all, in fact it's my primary hobby haha. Given the current circumstances, it's the main way that I get to interact with my friends, and they're a lot of fun.

  9. It isnt bad, not saying that.
For me though, its disrupting my life.
Gaming till late, screwing my sleep.
And not cleaning my room and such.
Playing fun games whith friends is still something I enjoy, not my type of games, COD, LOL etc.

A solution for these disabling problems is universal; try to get a good sleep; get out early in the morning and stay away from unhealthy internet issues and have oversight, ie at a library or other people who will hold you accountable. Take long walks, a good diet, replace bad habits with good ones. Do charitable good deeds.

Literally the same things are being said about masturbation. I think the devil is in the details. Sure if you can keep it at a healthy amount, it can be even beneficial. But it's an addictive practice and some will always take it way too far. Sure, gaming is okay. Is it okay to play games so much that it interferes with all the other aspects of your life and to the point where you no longer can feel happy if you aren't playing?

Hmm... I've played games since I was 6 and I started with a Nintendo 64, loved playing RPGs until I got an xbox 360. Got my hands on CoD World at War and Modern warfare 2 and never went back. Became exclusively involved in FPS including Battlefield 3, 4 and 1.

But to be fair, games are a crutch. They're an excuse for antisocial people and if I could go back in time I would not have ever gotten a console.

Gaming itself is not bad but for people with addictive tendencies (that's why you find a lot of them in this forum) it is hard to control how much they play and then end up playing all day and escaping reality through gaming.

Gaming and masturbation are not even close. I never feel empty, unmotivated or depleted in energy with gaming. it's totally opposite for me how i feel regarding a fap vs a decent gaming session.
reality is an illusion anyway and we should do what makes us happy, so many people are making a living off and if it gets you money then it's quite useful

That's the thing. You never feel those things after gaming. Guess what? A lot of people never feel that way after masturbating. And personally as someone who isn't a game addict, but does occasionally have periods of time when I've taken gaming too far, I have felt all those feelings after a too long gaming session. You can't just assume that everyone feels the exact same way about things as you do.

Would you rather be seen gaming or having sex? Gaming or taking a shit? Just because something has a stigma attached to it and isn't supposed to be done publicly doesn't mean it's worse than something that does not hold such a stigma.

would you rather be caught taking a shit or drinking beer? What is better for your health tho?

  20. i played online poker semi professional for years. It wasn´t healthy for me overall because of the thrill/stress and it was not my passion anymore. But it is difficult from person to person. I know people who can handle it. It is like everything in life, if you don´t feel good at or after gaming, just quit it...
