Getting out of the COVID rut

Right before COVID, I was on top of game. I was exercising every day, doing something creative every day, staying on top of homework, and winning the fight against porn. In the early days of COVID, I reached 90 days of no PMO and then I relapsed. Ever since, I've been more or less in a rut.

I've had a few streaks, but they didn't amount to much. I haven't been productive in other areas of my life either. When I look back on the past year, it's pretty depressing. I'm still doing fairly well in school, but most other areas of my life have been in a nosedive.

I'm willing to bet I'm not alone in this. I thought it would be good to have a place for those of us in a COVID rut to brainstorm ideas for getting out of it. And also a place for people who have successfully gotten out of their rut to pass on advice to the rest of us.

You're certainly not alone in this situation. I know at least three people in your position

    I’m struggling too.

  4. I am not sure how the situation is in your country, but I think a lot of these issues can and will only be solved by countries opening up again.
Where I am from, most places are still closed.

What's needed to get out of the COVID rut is:
    • going back to office to meet real people instead of Zoom people
    • gyms opening up again
    • bars, restaurants and clubs opening up again
    Basically: Normality.

Otherwise, it's super hard, because the intrinsic benefits of nofap are in fact rather small. It's what you make out of it that really develops you into a better person and gives you "superpowers". Something that only works if you interact with other people.

Here's hoping the vaccination plans work and we can all get back on track.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I've actually been doing fairly well for the past week and a bit. I'm now 8 days clean and I have been staying consistent with the areas of life that I've been neglecting (exercise, hobbies etc.). To be honest, I'm not really sure what has been different this week, but for anyone who is struggling, make sure to keep trying.

One thing I've found helpful is making a daily schedule and sticking to it. I get the hard stuff out of the way in the morning, so things generally get easier as the day goes on and I have things to look forward to in the afternoon.

I also made a separate list of things I've been putting off and just check them off one at a time when I have free time. I put some fun extra things on there as an incentive.

Hey, at least you're doing well in school!

Imagine a year where you're NOT studying, NOT working - just eating junk and watching YouTube (or worse ;) all day - and you'll have a pretty accurate description of what I've been doing since September (I was at least working till then).

I know the "things could be worse" reasoning is never much help in lifting one's spirit, but it's all I got right now. I do believe things will get better soon, for what it's worth. I even had a couple of gigs this month.

    Good luck!
