Have there ever been any? Have you been to one? How was it? Where was it?

I've never been to one but I first heard of Nofap from this guy that did go to one in the San Francisco area, I'm no longer in touch with him though.

I suppose some may go to a sex addiction 12 Step recovery group, probably just because it is the most common and prevalent. There are other formats, though I think one of the issues is people sometimes treat these on a drop in basis only. During the lockdown apparently a lot of people just stopped making an effort even with many online meetings available, though there are some who are already looking at starting up in person meetings again.

One simple thought I have though is to actually plan time after, or possibly even before the formal meeting for casual conversation. This seems to get left out with the Zoom meetings, especially if someone attends from another area and don't know anyone. It's understandable since people may feel a bit on the spot even if it is a fairly small group of less than 10. And if they did feel more comfortable with one person, it's a "thing" to have the host put them in a breakout room with that one person and it's just not natural. In a face to face meeting you can just kind of be out of earshot and still be within sight of the rest of the group, people with addictive issues have a tendency to isolate and you need some kind of context where they are going to feel more comfortable to open up a little and not be just thrown in like that I think.

I've actually attended sex addiction 12 step meetings many times. Of course it is a positive thing but I always felt like there were a pretty broad spectrum of issues that people attend these have, many very different from porn addiction. I kind of always felt there should be a more specific group for porn addiction... especially nowadays because what we're really talking about is online porn addiction.

One cool thing about the 12 step thing is there were a variety of meetings and one would have a different vibe than another. Also, there were social outings and get togethers that sprung from those groups.

Yeah the in person social outings do matter, unfortunately I think people don't think it through and realize that even if they have received benefits from that for years - but now it's largely not available. But some places have already started opening up to outdoor dining for example, it would just be a shame if people get used to the online thing and totally ignore that taking things for granted. It is even possible to talk being distanced in person but you just have to make that much more effort and it seems like it's been just enough that people don't do it, or they get caught up with whether the person is wearing a mask or just assume they are a carrier of COVID.
