Guardian coverage of Nofap

Discussion in 'Porn Addiction' started by Dave G 123, Sep 9, 2019.

  1. The same thing started happening to me on the same day I joined NF. They’re always accounts with men’s names but the photos are always scantily clad women. And I’m a woman so I don’t even know why they think I’d be interested in seeing any of this.

Which means we’re being tracked from one site to the next at all times so nothing is completely anonymous. They (whoever they are) know who are and what we’re doing online. FB is sharing our data with others and others are sharing our data with FB. But everyone probably already knew this.

    Oh yeah....and FB is evil.

Yes FB is such a piece of shit, I feel like I go on there to make sure I'm not missing something amazing, but that's ridiculous, I get any messages on messenger, I'm going to stop going on there. I hate that intrusion of sexual stuff into my awareness when I feel I'm working so hard on avoiding it, pisses me off.

Yeah, I get ads on YouTube that are "inappropriate" all the time. Keep having to bat them away. I gave up social media years ago.

Does anyone here use TOR or a VPN? And if so do you still have this kind of problem?

  4. I tried using tor but it slowed my laptop down to a crawl. Drove me bananas so I just gave up. Haven’t used a vpn.

  5. @Dave G 123 You can get an ad blocker for your browser. It will block the YouTube ads.

Fb is one of their tools.

  7. Also YouTube Red (or is it called Premium now?) is good for ad-free streaming of shows, clips and music. Though I've been noticing their thumbnail images becoming racier of late.

It's not that the Guardian is hostile to nofap per se. It's that pretty much all western mainstream media is hostile to men and masculinity in general. It doesn't matter if men are doing something as benign as getting together to play a niche board game, to these cultural marxists the fact that it's a group of men means that it's inherently "problematic." They have no compunction about torturing logic, holding up extreme edge cases as representative examples, or using loaded terms or any number of bad faith rhetorical devices to push their narratives. Hell, there's even a VICE article that links nofap to racism. The word "masculinity" itself has come to take on suspect and threatening connotations, and that hasn't been by accident.

  9. There are many people who profit off a business that generates over a billion dollars in profit every year. They may see NF as a threat to their bottom lines and have to make sure they demonize in the eyes of the public.

Talk like this proves their point for them and makes it look like they're right.

All western mainstream media isn’t hostile to men and masculinity. The majority of western media is owned and run by men. Why would they be against themselves and each other? What they are against is the only thing they really value and will protect at any cost: their money.

Well, some good came of that article. I had never heard of NoFap until I happened upon that article, and its negative slant notwithstanding, I was curious enough to come investigate. Glad I did.

The accusations in that article are not 100% baseless – I've seen a few posts in the last couple days with some serious anger/resentment directed at women, mostly using derogatory slurs – but that isn't indicative of what NoFap is. In any large group, this one included, you'll get a range of people with different opinions and perspectives, including a few misogynists. That doesn't make NoFap a misogynist/incel forum. And some of the arguments struck me as just absurd. I certainly don't see women as the 'prize' for staying away from porn and masturbation; I'm already married, and I just want to be the best husband, father, and person I can be.

I agree. Everyone is here for their own reasons, and I, like you just want to be a better husband and father.

As with any internet forum there will be extremes of view as well as a few people who's only reason to be here is to cause outrage and is likely not a view shared by many others.
