Had a "strong" start but had a streak of relapses

    Hi all!
So I started with NoFap with a 22 day goal, I couldn't believe how easy that was.
Then I reached for higher goals but quickly fell into multiple relapses.
    Now I can't even reach 3 days.
So I thought, lets get in touch with like minded people and ask for help, advice and stories.

I'm Dutch, 23 and male. ATM I'm really into behavior studies (believe it or not)

It feels like every time I start over the "promise" of me actually doing it becomes weaker and I hate that.
Most of the times before I relapse I convince myself that it isn't that bad.
That when I'm not doing it I'm robbing myself of this great pleasure, I don't want to think that but I do.

Hello Bravastan and welcome back! Just the fact that you made it to 22 days is something to be proud of and I want to know how you did it. The longest I went without fapping was about 2 weeks. I was reading the rebooting article on this site and stumbled upon your post while I was reading it. So here's a quote from that article that might help encourage you.

"Perhaps the greatest lesson you can learn from resetting is tenacity. Each time you reset your count, it’s an opportunity to get up and try again. Success doesn’t come to people who never stumble; success comes to people who learn how to get up again.

When you reset, the most important things you can do are share with the community that you have stumbled, and try again."

Thank you, that means much to me! Do you know why you relapsed? I'm really curious!

Well my though progress went like this: The horny sensation is the most active around the crotch (for me). Thus this feeling is heavily in the body while I think something like boredom is a mostly brain kinda thing. A long time ago I learned in a martial arts that adrenaline in the body has to go somewhere. So when somebody is angry it is hard to get them to calm down, you can see how their body shifts and turns and just isn't at easy. When you give this person a physical way to outward his feelings the feeling will go away. I treat the feeling of hornyness in the same manner. Whenever I felt horny I did 5 push-ups. It mostly worked and when it didn't I did 5 more. I kinda stopped doing this, maybe hence the relapse. Hope this helps :) I find that most of the tips you get here are about how to handle the brain but not the body, the addiction is from the brain, the feeling is from the body, work on both!

Interesting topic, I've found much the same happen to me. Almost made it to 30 days a while ago, and it's been an ongoing struggle since.

Over my many streak attempts I have lately paused at each one, and asked myself two questions.

    What caused this relapse?
How can I do it differently this time?

This has helped change a number of habits and overall my life is more productive, even though I am yet to leave porn completely for 30+ days.

You're right to work on both your body and mind. Exercise and healthy eating helps your mind, and spending time doing mentally stimulating activities and meditating helps your body.

I agree the nofap challenge is definitely an external and internal battle and we need to learn how to combat both types of battles. However, you're welcome and thank you for your advice. I know for a fact what you mentioned about the push ups actually works. Because yesterday, I was really horny (in the crotch area lol) while I was stretching and when I started working out. The feeling gradually went away.

EDIT: Almost forgot to answer your question about why I relapse. Blame it on the brain fog hehe.. Well see that was several years ago when I had less self-control and discipline. I also had a distracting massive porn collection on my computer that I've been collecting ever since high speed internet became available which grew to over 500 gigs of adult entertainment.

I recently made the bold choice of deleting everything and emptying the recycle bin before starting this challenge. Then there were triggers everywhere. On tv, the internet, billboards, work, school, and even just good looking people walking on the street were triggers that made me think about porn. That's why I decided to make this change to reboot my mind because life isn't always about sex.
