We all know that people say you have to go trough a lot of pain, the anxiety, insomnia, the flatlines etc. But is there a proper mindset to quit without going trough all of this? I do not ask this because I'm afraid of pain, but just I don't want to go trough a pain that it is not necessary and not worth it in the long scale.

After 14 years, I stopped smoking 8 months ago. It's not the first time that I try to stop smoking, but it is the first time that I do it "easily". I do not miss cigarettes at all and I'm not afraid of not "being able" to smoke for the rest of my life. The other times I gave up smoking I gained a lot of weight, the withdrawal symptoms were crazy, now was not "super" easy, but in comparison to other times it was nothing!

I succeeded giving up smoking "easily" after reading "Easy Way to Stop Smoking", and I'm still reading "The Only way to Stop Smoking" by Allen Carr. Basically, these books help you to change your mindset to the process of quitting and make you see it as an easy path towards a better life and not a hell you have to go trough before heaven. The most important thing for me, is that it is much more useful in the long term than just using the will power.

So, as with quitting tobacco everyone says that it is so hard and a hideous process, but actually there's ways to quit without that much suffer and keeping your mental peace, I would like to know if any one knows if there's a simpler approach to quit porn as well. As they both are addictions, maybe there is.

I’ve read Carrs book (not a smoker). I am also convinced there must be a similar way to quit PMO addiction because of the many similarities between the two addictions.

But they are not 100% equal, so it can’t be a perfect translation of ideas.

The problem is that Carr himself passed away and his organization does not offer a service to porn addicts.

And we have not had someone like Allen Carr come with a similar method to his for porn.

There are people who have written adaptations of his book for PMO but they are in sketchy legal territory because they are essentially just translating his work and replacing smoking with porn.

I am trying to approach my recovery with the Easy Way mindset so I’m thinking and researching this a lot. I may write up a longer more helpful piece later.

I believe if you rewire brain somehow, it can be done. Like finding a right impulse and forgetting all about it. Not sure what exactly it could be to make it long term, but I have days like that. For example spending time with family. But at some point the fight will be there or at least trying to stop yourself to explore this stuff all again from the begginng. It could help not to get you into the circle of doom again.

I’m not sure the two are really comparable. The methods from Carr’s books would be useful to some extent controlling urges and changing habits but I think addictions like porn and compulsive sexual behaviour run deeper. There are underlying causes that drive these, usually childhood trauma. These habits first formed as coping mechanisms. Until you identify the true causes, resolve the trauma, and rebuild healthy ways to deal with stressors, you will still be driven to engage in these behaviours.

I am currently reading _The Freedom Model for Addictions_ by Steven Slate. It has a lot of similarities to Allen Carr in that it emphasizes using knowledge and clear thinking and deconstructing what a person mistakenly thinks they are getting as benefits to reveal that the "bargain" of use is not what we think. It also emphasizes that we can be free of "addiction" by changing our mindset and then simply moving on with our lives without endless cycles of "relapse". The book gets criticized for being critical of 12 Step and offering a totally different model. The book is not geared toward porn, but I am finding it very helpful.

Brother first of all it depend on the circumstances on which place you are in like if you are in a place where everybody focus and always try to talk with you and never let you stay alone and you work too hard to get tired easily and after all your brain will don't focus on porn and it will quit easily but as compared to another side if you watch p*** whole day and never control your mind and always keep naked woman stuff in your phone and laptop so brother without doubt it will going to so hard so so hard, and tu be honest you should stop consuming all that stuff if you are serious about your addiction because in YouTube and all different platforms have 90% some triggers u know what I am saying ,as there always trying to reveal their body and like tik toks ,shots ,rells everywhere 15 second videos are controlling all over the world and mostly of them are come from bad category which don't have any moral , let me take your example brother you quit your smoking addiction in 8 month and to be honest when you start to think to quit do you ever place cigrate packet nearby you or you ask from someone to borrow the secret ? no bro because you were that time so serious and you were all away from all your distractions and the things which holding you to stay on particular addiction . Bro you know everybody and every person can recover from this addiction too just the person who is suffering need optimum place and conditions furthermore mentality play huge role while planning to quit all that stuff, I will give you guarantee that if you watch p*** or any n***** disturb so it will going to hard for you to get rid of this harfrmul addiction, but if you stay clean so it will go as easy as possible.

The thing about any addiction is how badly you were involved in it, the more you were involved, the harder it is to quit.
In human body, dopamine is the substance responsible for reward and joy. Let's say you had addictions #1 and #2 for a period of time and acting upon these addictions used to release 100 units of dopamine together, addiction #1 used to release 70 units and addiction #2 used to release 30 units. Which addiction do you think is harder to quit?
One more thing about the brain is the action of dopamine receptors, these receptors receive the dopamine and through a a chain of events, you feel joy. When you start an action that gives you easy dopamine on a normal basis, the receptors become less responsive (almost like you eat too much and you are not hungry anymore, so eating more doesn't give you joy, you need to eat sweet desserts now to get the joy and work your way up). So, now, in order to get the same amount of joy (brain reward), you need to consume more of the action that released dopamine in your body, and this goes on and on and you keep increasing your dosage of the harmful/joyful action until that action does not make you happy anymore, so, you turn into stronger things (I have experienced addictions to really bad pornography types in my life, I know what I am talking about) ... So, that's the whole story
My example: I used to enjoy reading, I was a bookworm, that was not enough anymore after a few years, so computer games were introduced to me through bad friends, then porn (and I mean just looking at the picture of some beautiful women), then ... you know the rest

Lately i ve been stuck in this mindset :
    -a peek wont hurt
    -fapping a little wont hurt
-i will edge but not orgasm
    -fail miserably

A book you can find online for free similar to what you suggested is the e a s y p e a s y m e t h o d(i wrote it like this because this forum wont let me write the title): it helps you stop your porn addiction but making you realise it s an illusion and there are no advantages to it .
When i first read it i had my first extremely easy streak of 11 days which i stopped because i thought a peek wont hurt so i was back in the cycle .
Now im back to 5 days with another method i came up with .
