Help going to sleep earlier?

Discussion in 'Rebooting - Porn Addiction Recovery' started by WhyNotStop, Dec 12, 2016.

  1. As a addict I'm used to be going to sleep past 12am at night, since its the time when I tend to relapse. Thing is, I'm not getting enough sleep. Has anyone here changed their sleeping habits after starting nofap? Please provide some tips to make going to sleep around 9-10pm a normal/natural habit. Thanks.

It's all about routine. Go to bed and get up at a consistent time, even on weekends. Keep your bed only for sleeping so when you actually go to bed your body will associate that with sleep. Don't use your phone when in bed trying to sleep. If you're not asleep within 15 minutes, get up and do something relaxing and try to sleep again when you're tired.

Try to limit your caffeine and have none after around midday - this can have a prolonged effect on your sleep so limiting your evening caffeine will make it easier to sleep.

The first few nights will be hard but over time you will be able to change your sleep habit. I think waking early consistently is the most helpful thing initially as then you'll be tired when you go to bed so, combined with these tips, should be able to get to bed earlier.

  3. Go to sleep earlier.
My tip is to turn off screens a bit before bed. Also, taking a quick cold shower before bed can help me fall asleep. Meditation also helps.

    Yep...
And if you have a TV in your bedroom, definitely move it away to one of the" day" rooms...

  5. Thank all of you for your responses I'll definitely will be trying the things everyone here recommended. I have a serious problem of staying up and playing on my phone once in bed. That will stop. I also got back on track with my cold showers which help with getting sleepy. I plan to get into meditation later on in my recovery. I also have a bad habit of keeping my TV on for a few minutes right before going to sleep, which wastes precious sleep time and makes going to sleep harder. Again thanks for responding!
