Help! Masturbating in my Sleep

Discussion in 'Rebooting - Porn Addiction Recovery' started by LifeTransformation2017, Oct 25, 2016.

  1. I wanna start off this thread by saying that I beat my previous record of 121 days PMO free today. I'm so proud of myself. There is one problem though. It's that for a while now I've been masturbating in my sleep. This problem started during the summer. Although the first time I remember it happening is last year around August or September. You guys reading this are probably thinking I'm having wet dreams. There's actually a name for this and it's called Sexsomnia. Basically what happens is I'll be sleeping and in my sleep I strip completely naked and start touching myself. Sometimes I'll play with my nipples or sometimes I'll just go straight to my penis and start masturbating. All while this is happening I'm sleeping. I usually wake up at the point that I have as orgasim. When this is happening I'm in a semi-aware state. I can see what I'm doing, but I don't realize what's going on. I have no control over myself. I'm just along for the ride. I've done some research on this and I think I have REM sleep disorder. People who suffer from REM sleep disorder usually act out dreams and remember the dream they were acting out, although they may not understand what happened when they first wake up. In the dream their action may be completely justified, but to an outside observer their actions may be completely meaningless or random. This describes exactly what I'm suffering from. Have you guys ever experienced anything like this? If so, what can I do to put a stop to it? I know I need to do something. I can't let this keep happening. I feel like I'm not seeing any of the benefits of NoFap. I have no confidence. I have trouble making eye contact with people. I'm depressed. It's just like I'm masturbating when I'm awake. I haven't intentionally masturbated or watched any porn since June, but I keep masturbating in my sleep. I thought about trying to see a sleep specialist, but in order to do that I would have to tell my parents about this problem and I don't want to tell them that I masturbate in my sleep. That would be so embarassing. I don't know what to do. If somebody could please help me out and think of what I could do I'd really appreciate it.

    What the fuck?

Do you edge during the day(s), look at p-subs, etc.?

If you are unconscious, I wouldn't worry about it. If you wake up and realize what's happening but you stop yourself, then that's the main thing right? I would lay off caffeine after 5 pm too, and make sure you are getting some regular light exercise. Should help you sleep more soundly.

I would worry the fuck out of it, personally -- because OP's already stated he's in a "semi-aware" state when doing it + so far he's not seeing any NoFap benefits either.

Nevertheless, a great point about the caffeine / exercising. I need to do more of that myself.

  5. Chastity-belt that trouser snake. Seriously...put on some clothing that makes it difficult to get down there. Or you could try cuffing your hand to the bed but that might be dangerous.

You can also try using gauze--it's cheap and you can wrap it around your hand. Hard to jerk it with your hand covered.

  6. The problem is not your sleep but your brain, what you do dream is much related to what we think throughout day or in same wierd case it may be indication of things gonna happen in future.Take a shower before sleep and just relax, no need to go beyond your brain limit, you cant defeat your brain, thats not under your control.Do meditation, dont think you 121 days without porn, think you have invested 121 days to make your life, there is no benefit in running from porn, you will run, your brain will catch, so better avoid thinking about PMO and start focusing on other things in daily life...

    Hi LifeTransformation2016.

Did you think about going an specialist? Therapist or psychologist? Maybe there is something more than stopping PMO to help you. I´m not a psychologist, and frankly, I have no idea what to say to help you. I wish you best of luck.

  11. I used to see a therapist every week. I stopped once I started school because I knew I would be too busy since I'm on my school's golf team and we have either a match or practice every day. Well now golf season is over so I will be seeing him again soon. I don't know if I really want to ask him about this issue. First off it's really embarrassing. Plus I don't know if he could really help me. Sleep isn't really his area of expertise.

  12. I try not to think about PMO during the day, but it's going to creep into my mind at some point. Although it's hard not to think about it when it's the source of all my problems. And you're right I should meditate. I used to meditate every day, twice a day, but I got out of that habit.

  13. It's terr
It's terrible isn't it? I've tried so hard to get PMO out of my life, but I can't prevent it when I do it in my sleep. Thankfully I don't do it every night like you. It usually happens twice a week for me.

Unless your therapist started yesterday, I'm sure he's heard worse shit than someone quitting PMO and jerking in their sleep. And sleep disorders are fairly common so there's a good chance he does have some experience with it. Or related.

Stop being a sissy and use your therapist--a great resource many of us wish we had. Get over the embarrassment. Doctor patient privilege and HIPPA protect your info. You wanna stop jerking right??? Go!
