    Hi noFap community,

I am a 30 year old guy from the UK. Struggled with quitting or even controlling porn use since my late teens, discovered it around 13 in the 56k modem days!

Fast forward to my early twenties and I had problems with drugs and after getting a good degree in music I moved back home and started a pretty crappy existence doing nothing with my life and continuing to smoke a lot of weed, play games and watch a lot of porn.

That was almost ten years ago.... I am happy to say that a lot has changed in my life, I quit weed and other drugs (I still drink, and well.... dopamine ), quit playing games, started to take my music and life seriously again, I know now what I want to do with myself even if I am starting the process late!

So why post this? Well I have been lurking on the edges of this community for a year, I tried last January to quit porn and fapping and well..... it didn't work out! Like a lot of you I have relapsed, taken quick peeks, fantasized (there's a big library up there!) and realized just how tough this thing is to crack. I know that this wont be the same for everyone but for me quitting a 15+ year weed habit was easy compared to this.

So that's me, I would love to hear from people who feel some similarity with my story and we can talk. For me the biggest fear stopping me making any progress with fighting this addiction has been my desperation to keep it private and deal with it on my own. I know now that just doesn't work so its a relief to finally join this community.

    Big love to everyone,

    Chris

Welcome.... what's your plan for quitting PMO?

  3. Hey @ ,

Just another warm welcome and a heart felt hello. This community has helped me so much.

First, reading the literature published by NoFap itself along with reading journals.

Then, doing the work. Writing in my journal and replying to introductions and other's journals.

Lastyly, but not least, getting involved with the fellowship. I found it on the forums, but also in people's profiles. The forums tend to be longer posts, where the profiles tend to be more "conversational".

That is what has worked for me. I like to remind myself that this community was here waiting for me with the lights on when I arrived. Now, I have to do my best to be there when someone comes to the community.

  4. One of the ways I got involved with the fellowship was by reading some really great journals.

I've included journals from all age groups, spiritual members, religious members, secular members, male and female. You should find journals that help. If not, look around, there are hundreds of others from which to choose. When I say "it works if you work it", reading journals is part of that work.

Once you open a journal, click "Watch Thread" in the upper right of the page to get alerts when new posts are made. Here are just a few:

There are many more, and you can discover them on your own. But, these are great places to start.

This is a work in progress. So, if a journal has changed or is no longer active, look around there are some amazing journals on here.

Thanks, well my biggest step has been to join this forum and actually talk to people about this problem instead of trying to remain isolated.

I joined a 30 day challenge today and I will keep a journal. Also I am trying the reboot app on my phone (phone is not a trigger for me).
Next I need to work honestly on what does trigger me. Tiredness, drinking too much and spending too much time on my computer procrastinating. (my computer chair IS a trigger)
I'm doing 3 minutes a day of meditation, adding one minute a week.
Working a lot more on my hobbies - classical guitar and learning Spanish.
    And I pray.

Can I ask you, what helped you?

Consistent prayer and meditation works for me. The longest streak I got was 22 days. Unfortunately the past 3 weeks have been rather bad so I'm picking myself up again.

I hear you! Works well for me too. I find meditation is necessary to get longer streaks. I went 4 months once, but for me I have to be extra vigilant. Have now added a site blocker to my browser because I used to follow this line of (bad) reasoning: I like art -> pinterest and deviantart have art -> oh look.... whats that -> relapse
