So I'm starting Day 4 and for the past two nights, I've had bouts of insomnia where I wake up around 2 a.m., crazy horny, and can't go back to sleep. This morning was even worse because I woke up from a weird sex dream.

I know from experience I'll have some sleepless nights while I'm abstaining, but I'm wondering if I'm the only one who deals with it, or if somebody has some tips for something that will help me go back to sleep besides fapping -- because that's pretty much all I can think of when it happens.

Yeah, this is incredibly tough. I've dealt with this for years, but the last year has greatly improved when it comes to waking up in the middle of the night.

Sleep habits have become a main focus when it comes to my reboot. These tips are easier said than done, but they have worked for me when I put them into practice.

    • Be disciplined about waking up at the same time and going to bed at the same time.
    • Avoid stimulants after 4pm, 2pm if you're sensitive or have an early bedtime.
    • Exercise. This produced the biggest change in my sleep patterns. I would recommend everyone with sleep problems engage in weight training and cardio.
    • Melatonin can greatly help. Especially when it comes to staying asleep.
    • If you do wake up in the middle of the night, getting up and taking a shower can help. Rolling out of a bed and doing a plank until you lose your erection can also work. The problem is willpower is often weak when it's 2am, and it can be hard to bully yourself into this.
    • Backwards belt. This sounds silly, and can take some getting used to, but I used to struggle with involuntary touching in the middle of the night. I would wake up edging. The only solution that broke this habit was wearing pants to bed with a belt that was fastened backwards. Again, this sounds stupid, but it worked.
    • Challenge yourself when it comes to your sleep schedule. If you are dead tired at the end of the day, you will usually sleep through the night.
    • Meditate/pray before bed. Give your brain time to work through emotions and stress before you lay down to sleep.
    • Only lay in bed when you are going to sleep for the night. This trains your brain to go to sleep when you are in the right location and position. Stop using the bed to read or watch TV.
    • Avoid all screens before bed. The light triggers your brain to stay awake.
This is a common problem. You are not the only one who struggles with this. Laying in bed before I fall asleep is still my greatest trigger time, and waking up in the middle of the night used to be a major problem for me. It felt impossible to overcome, but focusing on addressing my sleep problems to avoid the situation greatly helped me.

Man, the same thing happens to me! I don't know why, but for whatever reason, when I'm really sleepy (or just waking up), at times I'll get really really horny. I think flame0's advice in general is good, but I would say that exercising is especially good, because it does indeed help your body develop a certain rhythm. There's no better foundation for consistency than a solid structure/schedule. I found that, for me, my sleep-horniness was usually a result of my having taken something to help me sleep (pills). I'm just spitballing here, but I'm fairly certain the reason I'd get so horny was because the sleeping pills would trigger some kind of chemical reaction in my brain that would in turn would activate the pleasure chemicals---and thus, a craving would come on.

In summary, I'd advise staying away from not only stimulants before going to bed, but depressants as well (alcohol, and especially anything with dyphenhydramine in it--that includes stuff for colds, as well as sleeping pills obviously).

    Good luck!
