How bad are porn thoughts compared to actual porn?

Like if you ended up masturbating and thought about porn like scenarios while masturbating. How damaging is this compared to masturbating to porn?

So masturbating for 5 minutes imagining porn like scenarios is just as damaging as going on an edging session masturbating flicking about hundreds of different porn content for over an hour ext?

You didn't qualify it for length of time in the original post. You can argue it's less time, but you O both ways right?

The thing is there is neuroplastic evidence that just IMAGINING stuff is almost as 'good' as actually doing it. Even with physical training, there's this study where they measured exercising a finger. 30% increase with actually exercising it but 22% from just mentally rehearsing it. Now with O that's a powerful response and far beyond just moving a finger so that can give you an idea.

Is this only for someone recovering from PIED and porn addiction? Or are you in the opinion masturbating using your imagination before high speed internet came along was actually basically as damaging as masturbating to porn on highspeed internet?

No I don't think it was, but for our purposes it's practically the same now because we DO have high speed internet and even if you stop using the internet you probably have already have your mind filled with a ton of stuff, at least the KINDS of porn-like scenes which you've consumed through high speed internet right? I mean we don't have a way to exactly measure it, but as far as in the general ball park I say sure, it can be a little less bad if you stop actually viewing porn on the internet and just have the thoughts but we originally learned those from the internet - and not just learned but we had our brains wired from repeated exposure over and over - and even if it doesn't strengthen it it may just keep it alive at the same level.

I actually try to cut out masturbation as well as porn and artificial sexual stimulation. But I don't take stopping masturbation as seriously as stopping porn and artificial sexual stimulation. If I do end up masturbating I usually try to think of realistic scenarios. But I think it is difficult to know exactly what realistic scenarios are sometimes, and sometimes I can think of more kinky stuff, maybe even more porn like scenarios.

But yeah earlier I did end up thinking about something really kinky when I was masturbating. I guess it was a porn like scenario. But it was over in 5 minutes. Usually when I masturbate to porn it lasts an hour, and it is flicking about hundreds of different content.

  7. it’s ultimately still strengthening the pathways we’ve built to masturbating to pornography and it is not helping to rewire our brains ~

I agree. But in my opinion it isn't causing anywhere near the same level of damage as actually edging, binging on PMO.

Like I said, when I masturbate using my imagination it's over in 5 minutes. But on porn and artificial sexua stimulation it usually lasts at least an hour, edging, masturbating flicking about hundreds of different content before I ejaculate. I do believe the level of pleasure from doing it to porn is much greater than to using my imagination as well.

Trying to think of realistic fantasy is tricky if you do decide to masturbate. It's difficult to know wither or not your thinking of more of a porn like scenario or a porn like scenario.

Does going completely without porn and artificial sexual stimulation not really count for anything then, if you still continue to occasionally masturbate?

Of course it does, but we don't know how much. Even if you break even that still counts because it wouldn't be getting worse.

  11. Strange answer.
No no, watching p is much more damaging. In my humble opinion. I thought that would be a no-brainer ..

I can tell from how much more pleasure I get from PMO, and how much longer I spend edging and binging on PMO that it is much more damaging than MO. But yeah it's just some people on this are basically saying there's not much difference between the two.

and if there is guys that MO I doubt there is many that don't fantasize about something while they're masturbate. I find it very difficult to know how porn like some of my thoughts are. Like is imagining I am kinky sexual stuff with a hot woman I know in real life considered realistic fantasy or porn fantasy?

I feel like if stuff like that is considered porn fantasy, then it is near impossible to fantasize about much and it not being considered porn fantasy.

  13. Using porn has a much higher dopamine boost in my experience.
I dont see a big difference between fantasizing from a porn star or a real woman or a woman who doesnt exist.
But better you dont fap at all, if your reboot isnt finished.

  14. Some of them. But pmo is a ritual with many components that you don't repeat when you just use your own imagination (plus hands...)
And most importantly porn will give you new material and tempt or corrupt you with each repetition. I don't think that's the case with fantasy.

Exactly. Like is it realistic fantasy if I am fantasizing imagining that I am having sex with a hot babe from my hometown? But if I fantasize imagining I am having sex with a porn star then it is not realistic fantasy, and it is porn fantasy?

How does that make any sense?

This is what I mean by how do you know if it is realistic fantasy or porn fantasy?

  16. how humble lol.

i feel its the same if ure masturbating to a porn scene u saw. its essentially the same thing and equally damaging lol

  17. I even think it would be a lesser dopamine boost if it always would be the same woman. More boring of course too, but maybe less damaging

  18. But of course you should prefer not to fap.
A real woman or no fapping should be the goal

  19. MO has less of an effect on the brain but if you've constantly been doing PMO and you switch to MO your brain will be thinking of those fetishes and things you saw in porn. I haven't seen anyone that went straight from PMO to MO, they always ended up relapsing and going back to the porn pit. I do think there's better things to do with your time than masturbate but if you really want to, I think a lengthened Hard Mode reboot is necessary before going to just MO.
