Depression often is a factor in porn addiction. How do you manage your depression?

I'm starting to think that depression is actually not only a reason why people do porn, but actually a product of PMO. Because we get so much dopamine from porn, that everything else seems boring dull and sad. And then we can never get enough, so we get even more depressed.

I was depressed for years, even suicidal. After almost 2 months of reboot I am happier than I have been since my early teens, when my depression and porn addiction started. Now that my life is changing, I am overall more positive, hopeful, happy and even joking around a lot more. This despite everything on the news. (I don't watch the news anymore, for that reason). PMO made me very, depressed, angry and pessimistic about life.

I think once you get further in your recovery, you will notice your depression lessening and your mood improving. But of course, it will get worse before it gets better. Many people, including myself, will experience a lot of sadness, anger and frustration, especially in their second week of reboot (where you are right now). But if you hold on, I promise it will get better.

Best of luck to you, friend.

I think you are probably correct. As I look back on my life I realize that I have always had severe social anxiety as long as I can remember, but the depression didn't really appear until college, and that was when the PMO became a habit.

  4. Hey, I am struggling to gain mich ground in terms of streaks since this lockdown hit in the UK, but one thing that I can highly reccomend to relieve depressive symptoms is excercise. Last week I went on 4 3hr + bike rides in the country side and I hadn't felt so good in a long long time, even 30-45 minuites of moderate excercise can help to relieve minor to moderate depressive symptoms.

Set a schedule to keep busy and stick to it. That’s what I did and it helped a LOT. I found if I didn’t keep my schedule I would lie around doing nothing and just sit there depressed. Basically you have to try to keep yourself distracted until it passes.
