How long does it usually take to rewire the brain?

I know this can vary widely from person to person, and depending on how long one has had an addiction for, but I want to ask those who feel like they've completely broken free: how long did it take after your last relapse before you felt your brain was rewired enough that you would be so repulsed by the thought of PMO that your brain automatically starts avoiding it and you no longer had any feelings if you came across an erotic image or whatnot? How long before your withdrawal symptoms disappeared?

I want to get a general idea of how long of a road to recovery one may be facing. Like I don't know if still having urges and withdrawal symptoms several months in should be discouraging or part of the normal process.

  3. Expect up to two years if you are an extreme case

  4. I had 18 months with no P and went back to it. I still found it very enticing after that time. I was in active addiction for 25 years. I hear it can take 3-5 years for a full reset for such folks.

  5. Addict for 20 years, PIED resolved in 3 weeks. But, that's the functional aspect, the struggle with addiction will be life long.

I was also one of the lucky ones who was rid of PIED within weeks (i hear it can take months) however i can't imagine that the temptation will ever fully leave us. It may be pushed further and further back, but as soon as you look again it will very quickly become a strong complusion.

    Good luck man

Mine was gone after five days. I guess everybody really is unique when it comes to recovery.

That's good for people to hear though. People get hung up on it being about 90 days etc and get daunted by the prospect
