Most people on here would agree that masterbation without porn is a lot better than masterbation with porn. And this weekend, I’m about to go 30 consecutive days without porn or sleazy social media/youtube.

As long as I’m able to masterbate whenever I feel like it, I’ve found, that I can avoid porn/social media pretty easy (especially now that I got about 30 days momentum without it).

But the next question that needs to be asked is: How much masterbation (without porn) is to much? I know some of you are going to flat out say only jerk it once a week; and to that I’d probably say, that aint happening yet. But for starters (baby steps), should I shoot for jerking it once every 2 days?

    What do you folks think.

    thanks.

  2. None is best.
Try not jerking it for 90 days, then reconsider.

Yes because you are getting regular hits of dopamine from masturbating and from orgasms. You cannot reboot like this.

Easy answer to all you problems: look inside yourself.

no but really check how much it is enough for you in your life. many of us here are for cutting it for good until it isn't a compulsion, or to drop it entirely. my answer in my own life and body is that one time a month is enough, it's like it flushes some extra tension. but we all should use that energy tho

Smart men here. I would also say a full reboot can not happen if you keep spiking dopamine levels with small hits on a schedule that you "think" you'll be able to follow, but your addict will teach you otherwise. The only answer to your question is - you MUST FIND A WAY to absolutely 100% NOT P. M. O. Maybe you need to write down a goal you want to achieve every single day until you achieve it. Maybe you need outside talk therapy. Maybe you have to look deep down inside of you and find the one thing that you want the most and make it your reason to stop. My point being we aren't here to one day go back to this when everything is great again. Many have made that mistake numerous times. This has become a disorder in our lives that have made our lives out of order as well. It sucks that I wasted so much time on screen pixels. I know deep down I am worth more. And I will become more as I gain more and more sobriety. Its a journey. I know I'm on it for life. I'm not looking for a easy way out or any excuses. I want more. I want to become the most alpha I can. Women know when you're a chronic masturbater. When you abstain, women also notice, but don't label you as pathetic. Men that don't masturbate have an aura, they have life in them, they are personable and can look an attractive woman in her eyes without thinking about getting into bed with her. I hope you take this to heart and change.

To get going without porn I just allow my self to jerk when I feel the need. As long as their is no porn involved I think it’s fine for me. It’s not healthy in the sense that at times I use it as a coping method for stress in my life. But again it’s a start. After I get a handle on that I can generally continue to masturbate without porn when I feel the need for a release, not as an escape. To me this is a healthy way of masturbating.

For me masturbating is just as bad as porn use made just shy of 2 weeks without both but the damn horniness comes up I think get it over with but still the same result. Today I was insanely angry about it. For me neither one is good. I hate the feeling of disgust and it's always the same.

Ah gotcha. Ya if it causes distress then definitely not healthy. For me I have no shame after masturbating without porn.

  11. I don't know if I would agree with that.

I actually started masturbating at a really young age (like 4) to cope with childhood trauma and I'm a middle aged man now. Even as a kid I knew it was a shameful and disgusting act.

That's why I'm always shocked when guys buy into that mindset that masturbation is healthy. I wasn't old enough to tie my shoes but I still knew it was a despicable loser behavior.

I’ve been in SA recovery for almost two years from a porn and sex addiction. CSA around age 8 and introduced to hard core porn as an intro from an older male cousin. From that point on it just grew. I’ve had a couple runs up to 60 and 90 days. They were both extremely difficult but rewarding. Take this in steps. I’m almost done with my 12 steps, I dropped porn and tapered off masturbation. I found very little pleasure in jacking off without stimulation of porn. So that dropped off slowly. Once I started understanding my triggers it helped but nothing is fool proof. Give yourself some grace and time. People don’t struggle without reason, this stuff is hard. One day at a time man. I hated hearing that in group and the Serenity Prayer but wow they help me and I’m not of faith.

The point is that if you masturbate to fantasies, it’s basically masturbating to porn, because what difference does it make if the porn is produced by some decadent producer or yourself?

If you do a quick 30 seconds wank without any stimulants other than your hand only, then I guess there’s probably not much harm to this, but the ultimate problem is that you’re most probably NOT going to be able to stop there in the long term.

It’s a little like doing heroin once a month. Yeah, if you’re able to restrain yourself - great. But the problem is that if you get into a low point in your life (divorce, job loss, sickness etc.) you’re probably back in the habit full time.

I gotta start somewhere. If I can go say 6 months without any porn, then that’s a good start. And once I’m very comfortable avoiding visual porn, then I work on the masterbation.

If you really want make use of 100% of nofap potential, masturbation should be totally avoided.

For me, in my 4 years experience, avoiding MO is the most important thing to unlock your potential.

It is your choice, of course. But IMO, based on long experience, this approach is not effective. Why? Because you are still supplying the 'drug' your brain craves - dopamine surges. And the way addiction works, is that over time, you need more and more stimulation. Continuing to masturbate will lead you back to porn. :( Spare yourself the pain and heartache man.
