How much money in your bank account?

Discussion in 'Off-topic Discussion' started by Deleted Account, Aug 1, 2018.

  1. I think I might need this guy in my life!!!

  2. His show is very motivating :) I never imagined, with my income, that I could pay off my mortgage very quickly, but honestly, if we lived on a super strict budget and put every extra penny toward the house, we could probably pay it off in like 5 or 6 years, hypothetically. I doubt that will actually happen, but hypothetically it would be possible if we worked out butts off for it, which I never imagined would be the case.

  3. Honestly I don't know enough about it to comment but it didn't help me. I feel like it took the worst part of socialized health care with the worst parts of for profit insurance companies and created an unholy union that didn't actually reduce the cost of healthcare at all.

  4. Thankfully, I have never had debts. I could not cope with being in debt. :( I have never had nor will have a credit card. Why have the temptation of accumulating debt when I can just save for what I need? I try and keep stress to a minimum.

I looked. I have enough money to be good for about a year, in food and rent, etc, in case I lose my job. Rent here is typically paid weekly (which is dumb imo) rather than monthly like a lot of places, so it's not like I can wait until payday like I hear about.

I always keep such amounts, and I always have a tad stored in gold in case the Leftist-ran government brings Venezuela-styled socialism here and devalues our money. Once I sorted all that, then I usually save it for hobbies.

Ever since I learned the difference between money and currency (fiat), I always made sure to have precious metals. It's harder for it to lose worth than paper currency. It's smart for everyone to have a balance between the two imo

  8. Any thoughts on crypto? That seems to be all the rage these days too.

It's not backed by a government, which has its own pros and cons. It's an overrated form of money right now, but there's high potential for it as far as businesses accept it and governments don't slash it (like South Korea has done). But crypto depends heavily on the overall accepted worth of it. If businesses won't accept it, then that currency would be worthless, so it really depends on the exchange you use.

Gold is beautiful; thus it may never become useless. But a gold standard cannot grow a 2018-sized economy. But crypto doesn't physically exist; it's electronic and an investment (similar to stocks). That itself makes purchases easier than gold, but if it crashes, then you're screwed.

In my opinion, money should be treated like a stock portfolio: diversify!

  10. Gold may be beautiful but you can't eat it, drink it or warm your body with it. If things get too bad I'd rather have seeds, medicine, guns and water but I agree with your overall point. Cheers.

True; for those cases an emergency food/sustenance plan should be established.

I don't think people realise how or where their money comes from and how it gets its worth. They think it'll be stable forever, and worst case scenario, they can just buy stuff with it (which, of course, is definitely not the worst case), which prevents them from worrying about stocking up on the basics/vitals.

  12. GOLD fucking GOLD are you serious!!!!!
I am almost 40 and scrape together what I can by the end of the month to provide for my family and you are stashing away gold and food supplies. Where has my life went wrong!
When I first posted this I thought the majority of people would sympathise and be in the same boat but I feel like I am in a boat for one right now, in fact I feel like Rose on that fucking massive piece of floating timber!

    I need to sort my life out to address the following;

    - my career and financial situation
    - sexual tendencies, behaviour and additions
    - my relationship with my wife
    - time spent with my family
    - my overall health and qualtiy of life
    - extending my home to make it suitable for my family
    - generally being a better man

Golden boy and whoever else has big bank accounts on this thread thanks for making me realise what a loser I am, and I genuinely mean that. I have just noticed how far up the sunlight is from the bottom of this cave I have just realised I am in. This is a revelation! For the second time this website has helped me in a big way. The first was the realisation that I had a problem with porn and to see the negative effects it has. When I first came on here I didn't even consider that I had a problem, the penny only dropped after a week or two after reading other guys posts.

Where to start..... that's the next thing!

    THANK YOU A LOT GUYS!!!

Haha, I didn’t mean to. And it’s not like I’m Fort Knox either. But wow, I’m glad you’re desiring to do more about improving your life also.

  14. It’s quite simple. First donate to charity it’s returned ten fold. then pay yourself. (Save something from every pay. Act like it’s untouchable.) then spend less then you have. I’m 69 my wife and I were teachers. We sent three children through college they left with no debt. Main House paid off. No credit card debt. One car payment and a vacation beach house.
    Live within your means.

  15. Were you ever in my situation or were you always careful? It definitely adds another dimennison of pressure. I used to ignore it thinking.. I'm still young... but time is moving very fast now!

  16. Oh yes, there were lean times especially when we were loaded with the responsibility of children. But take those steps. I am convinced that giving to charity first returns so much more then you give. That’s step one. Do it you’ll see even if it’s only a small amount. It’s amazing how it comes back to you. As I’ve gotten older I give more.

  17. Contrary to popular belief debit in itself it’s a bad thing, it’s all about how you manage it. Having everything paid off, with no credit accounts reporting can actually hinder you from increasing your credit score.

The biggest thing when it comes to debit and your credit score is to make sure you’re making your payments on time and done before your reporting date, and to ensure your personal lines of credit or not over 30% utilization. If you follow these rules your debit is actually helping you increase your credit score because it’s showing you know how to use credit and that you’re reliable aka low risk.

Not.. much ...in my personal account

  19. I would look up velocity banking. It’s a strategy that helps you pay off the principle faster, which lets you pay off your house or car quicker, thus avoiding all of the additional interest. Banks hate this because interest is how they make their money.

  20. Yes, I know, but thanks. Lol I dont believe credit is evil.
