How often did our ancestors masturbate?

I believe the conflict is whether ejaculation frequency is correlated with prostrate cancer. I don't think causation is the point of dispute. In any case, correlation does not imply causation.

 

There's many factors correlated with cancer, but the science is unclear on what causes it. Some are well known like carbon monoxide from smoke causing lung cancer, but most forms of cancer have not yet been traced to specific causes.

 

My personal theory is that habitual masturbation is a relatively new phenomenon brought on by widely available provocative media and an abundance of leisure time.

For example think of medieval times. You were either a lord or a serf. If you were a lord, you could summon any woman in your palace (or from elsewhere) and have sex with her as much, whenever, and in whatever fashion, you chose. If you were a serf, all of your energy went into survival and staying off your lord's hit list. Plus your one room hovel didn't exactly give you a lot of privacy. For men of the ruling class there was no need to jack off and for the rest of the poor blokes, no opportunity. Masturbation was also strongly condemned by virtually all prominent religions of the time, but as as our world has grown more and more secular there are millions if not billions of men for whom any form of spirituality isn't even a point on their moral compass. Even up through the 1800s and probably the early 1900s in large parts of the world I would be very surprised if masturbation among men was anywhere near as prevalent as it is today. Jacking yourself off just for the fun of it was a luxury relatively few could afford and was frowned upon even if you could.

Im sure they had a few sheep and some ducks , all jokes aside I'm sure there were more women in need back then , I'm sure they had plenty of brothels , just because religion was high social standing , I doubt it was followed by many , the working man who slaved his ass off or fought in battle , if not married I doubt they were living like monks, I'm sure a lot and especially the high born fockers were some deviant mfs .

 

I'm sure it wasn't anywhere near habitual. I remember watching a video several years ago where some anthropologists were interviewing a hunter gatherer tribe and masturbation was looked at as odd behavior in the group, which is pretty interesting
