I think it's more common that you'll find a guy asking for this advice, because for a long time in our early cultures it was normal for boys to go through some kind of initiation rituals and ceremonies, like being forced to live out in the wild for a week, or doing these sorts of things. Once the ritual/ceremony was complete, it was official, you were no longer a boy, but now a man. Now that we've lost those ceremonies, a lot of guys find themselves lost, waiting for that moment where they feel like a man, only to never seem to find it.

You don't need any fancy rituals or ceremonies though to become a man, or to become a woman, you just need to learn to have values, direction and integrity.

Yeah right, in ancient times girls became women when menstruation came and that was it, but now that women are called to be strong and make a life, not be weak wifes and mothers, there has to be a maturation too. An adult person is one with integrity, whether is woman or man. Beside that, if a man wants to dance ballet or if a woman wants to go to kickboxing, there's no problem at all with that. You're being integral with your way of seeing life

In my opinion, to man up, you need to be the guy that knows what to do and be the guy people turn to. Someone who has their shit together and is a role model. You do whats right and have a code of ethics you abide by even if its not always in your best interest. Dont succomb to easiness and go the extra mile. Be educated but dont feel like your too good to get your hands dirty. You have your own identity/expectations for yourself and dont let others define or negatively influence who you are. You are confident but also humble. Thats just my interpretation of being a man though, like I said theres not necessarily a definitive answer.
