How to Build Willpower

Discussion in 'Self Improvement' started by SolidStance, Nov 1, 2015.

  1. Yes, the Navy Seal discovered who he was. The mind, brain and body are not willpower, they are tools that executes the wills commands. The Navy Seal figured this out and simply gives the command upon resistance.

I feel I am in the same boat as you.
. I thought after following discipline for days and controlling my urger it would get easier and I would be able to change my habits but it didn't happen. From 5-27 Oct. I used to
    • Study- at least 10 hours
    • Gym 8:30 - 10
    • Yoga/meditation- 6 am
    • Healthy diet
    • No pmo
    • No TV show, movie or computer addiction
    • Time management
But still I relapsed and didn't recover. I didn't become strong enough to resist the urger and feed into the temptations. Nor did it become natural and habitual for me to do these things. Everyday it was tough and hard to do it without procrastinating, wasting time and giving up addictions.
Sometime idk whether to call them addictions or not but binging TV shows for hours, pmo five times certainly is addiction. But to channel these addictions I substituted them by binge watching educational videos and documentaries on YouTube which I liked and loved doing BTW. But that was not to great utilisation of time as it made me too vulnerable to other addictions to which I often gave in. So I realised that studying from books is the best option for me but it was the most desisting one too.

  4. Training doesn't happen overnight or over months. It can take years of training and routine before the mind begins to obey. Discipline is not something we try out, it needs to become a part of our being. We don't come in and out of it like bulking and cutting, we get disciplined and we stay that way.

Eventually it just comes down to what we want. We always get what we want, whether we realize it or not. You want food? Eventually you succeed. You want air? So we breathe and now that habit is internalized. Getting focused on something is not the challenge, the challenge lies on the subject being focused on. Focusing on porn is easy, it is something the mind can easily do for hours. So why can't that be transmuted to something better like university studies? It is because you have not made studying attractive to the mind. There is no end goal in sight and you might not even like the subject. Change that. Love what you do because it will eventually lead you to where you want to be. If not then you are in the wrong field or not seeing the big picture.

Not being able to focus comes down to interest.
