I was watching this video on YouTube until I saw a comment suggesting that porn has actually been helpful to society. The person who had commented claimed that porn has decreased the number of rape attempts in the countries. The video was not related to porn at all(the title was Video-games or Kids you can't have both? uploaded by two girls who I suppose are feminists ) but the guy was somehow referring to it in his comment.

Here is the screen shot of the guy's main comment:

    Here is my reply:

and here is the guy's final reply:

Is there any article to prove him wrong?

  2. Honestly, I wouldn't waste my time with onr of those guys.

  3. All you can do is decide how porn has affected you and act accordingly.

Forget about trying to change people’s opinions. If they want advice they’ll take it. If they don’t want advice then there’s not much need to try and convince them, people don’t change that easily.

I like reading YouTube comments because sometimes people drop some good jokes.

Well what exactly are you trying to convince him with? You seem to talk about something that's quite different from the point he's trying to make.

People like us choose to be on the nofap journey for our own personal reasons but the point he's making is how porn reduces the likelihood of aggression (rape) towards others.

And if that's the case then in a way porn can have some sort of benefit to society, just not on a personal level as suggested from the book your brain on porn by Gary Wilson.

The claim that this guy is making is a serious one. I posted this question here to find if there are any scientific articles approving this claim. Nothing else.

I think the NoFap society has to have a profound knowledge to dismiss such claims. I know it is just a YouTube comment, but you should be able to reject it.

We should be open to claims and opinions that disapproves our belief and not deny them with unconscious biases.

I myself have refrained from masturbating to porn and watching porn and overall the act of masturbation because it affected my mind, interfered with my daily tasks ,gave me erectile dysfunction, etc and I am happy with it.But when it comes to such claims we need to have enough evidence to reject them.

  7. I remember the other day googling 'does porn cause rape?' or something like that after watching a youtube video and I also found related articles arguing that porn leads to a reduction of rape. I mean, I don't like that statistically this seems to be true but I couldn't really see any statistics to disprove it, at least I didn't look that hard after reading the first 2 I saw.

So we can't really argue with statistics if this is the case. I feel like it still hurts society to allow people to keep watching porn just so they don't rape people.

My logic when I googled that was I would find somewhere that porn does cause rape. Because porn doesn't have any boundaries, it provides so much content we frown upon and find so immoral. Like, if someone watches rape porn and they become so attached to it it forms an addiction and they get urges to exhibit this in real life. I mean I've watched it for 7 years and I do sometimes get urges to exhibit my desires so I thought I would find similar evidence online. But arguments saying porn reduces rape seem to be saying porn is acting as an outlet for all the violent and rapist urges or tendencies. I mean, if that's true then it's kind of worse imo. We're acknowledging that we need a false representation of intimacy where we thrive on artificial highs just so we don't end up raping people one day. As long as we don't actually rape people, we can watch all the raping we want. I just imagine talking to some friend before we go out and them asking "Hey just checking if you got any urges for rape tonight?" then I'm like "No it's okay I took my dose, I masturbated to rape instead". I mean, what happens if we wake up and porn is gone the next day? When the drug gets removed so suddenly on a large scale, I imagine we'd get more intense cravings and the escalated desires from addiction can get overwhelming with no 'outlet'. What if a riot forms with people demanding their porn back, the violent fantasies they now want to carry out in real life. A bunch of people running out in the streets wanting to rape people. I mean, that's probably not going to happen lmao. But I just feel like if porn keeps being overlooked like this then it will have large consequences in the long term.

You are absolutely right. Even if it is true that watching porn would reduce the rape attempts around the world, it should not be considered as the cure for this immoral and vile behavior.

I could not find articles that discusses the correlation between rape and pornography but I found some articles that confirms the relation between porn and sexual violence. Here are some of these articles:

What this guy seems to be implying is pretty messed up, that without porn, guys would just go around raping people and acting out their fantasies on people? That seems ridiculous to me, I'm nearly at 4 months no PMO, and I haven't started feeling the urge to rape anyone, and I'm not going to, because that would be ridiculous. If anything, my more twisted porn fantasies have actually FADED over the course of my streak, not intensified. I wouldn't say the guy is a troll, just a misguided person who doesnt understand what hes talking about, and with that in mind I would advise not bothering to argue with him or convince him of anything, chances are you will just be wasting your digital oxygen.
