I am being forced to take antidepressants

There is a lot of talk against anti-depressants here. But this is a decision for each individual. They can play a vital part of a treatment plan. Talking therapy is also therapeutic. It is not for us to impose our opinions about medical treatments on @RedPillRebooter.

 

Ssri do not increase suicide thoughts
I have been on them since high school finished and I am 31 now. I have hardly been suicidal. Maybe I depended on it too much and my life has sucked but suicidal thoughts are a choice

 

@porncaptive23, they didn't for you, but there seems to be some statistical evidence of some connections with antidepressants and suicidal thoughts and behavior in younger and more seriously depressed patients. It is a possible side effect, so it is important to be closely monitored or in therapy. I am glad that they have helped you.

 

I personally find I have a clear linkage with emotional issues and mild depression that in my mind clearly increase my tendency to addictive behaviors, especially when I am tired have had some alcohol and/or am triggered by uncomfortable social interactions. PMO clearly reinforces this and being clean for 6+ weeks is like a breath of fresh air, it's not the whole solution, but a significant part, and it remains a challenge not to relapse in those first 6 weeks. I am curious how a mild antidepressant taken for a limited time could help in getting me out of the cycle.

I tried St Johns Wort this summer. And had to switch to a more potent kind and higher does before I noticed anything. The positive side effect was that I felt a 'solidity' inside me. That dark mood that wants to pull me into dumb choices seemed gone. But after a few weeks homeostasis set in and I could perceive no change and I stopped ttaking it.

Maybe it's pie in the sky or a false crutch, and maybe it's most important to find out how to get completely clean on my own...

The drug he is taking (Desvenlafaxine (Pristiq), is an SNRI and for some people it can increase suicidality. They are not licensed to be used in patients under 18.

 

Okay I see. But regular ssri antidepressants such as Zoloft and lexapro have been fine with me.

 

I take two SNRIs (Duloxetine 120mg and Venlafaxine 150mg) and I have had no suicidal thoughts. But I am 52 though.

It is those below 18 that would be at risk and it cannot be prescribed for that group anyway. Otherwise, SNRIs are very effective.

 

Antidepressants are not as detrimental to health as jumping off of a bridge.

 

I get suicidal ideation. It is a side effect of pain and hopelessness, not exactly a pursuit.

 

What's so funny about antidepressants is that we are always advised by professionals to take the meds AT LEAST 6 MONTHS TIL 1 YEAR. I'm sure if taking that much for that long is necessary, and i'm not sure if it's safe or my brain can be damaging. Doubt.
