Common culture would have it that we satiate our desires with porn and drink and coke and corn syrup, single serving friendships and cheap entertainment... But throughout the halls of human history there have always been a minority of men and women taking the chance that is our birthright to take, disconnecting from the air-suds society that tries to fill a God-sized hole inside with guiness and starbucks... Wandering off now, into the forest and the mountains, to reclaim what Terence Mckenna calls "the felt presence of immediate experience", where meaning explodes on your nerve endings and where we know we've found the Strength and the Peace that we always knew was there, and after the triumphant YAWP, can at last say "Ahh yes, I remember... I'm home."

@Mr 47, yeah I feel ya, I can never fackin tell though if I'm supposed to just sit on the potential energy until some "wu-wei" type of current naturally hones and expresses it, or if I'm supposed to just take the reigns, bite my tongue and just fuckin act and force that potential energy into motion.

 

@PanteriMauzer, meh, I think that thing's been representing dominion for long long times, anyway romans are overrated, I just got thru a Dan Carlin podcast about the celtic holocaust, that caesar killed off about all my ancestors

 

@PanteriMauzer meh, juice wasn't worth the squeeze son... as Huxley's brave new world savage says "I don't want comfort... I want god, I want poetry, I want real danger... I want freedom, and goodness... I want sin!" The mythological prerogatives, the aborigines, the hunter-gatherers, the ritualistic and altruistic, and the savages... These are my people! I'll take those modes of being any day over the post-enlightenment narrative filled with civilized, scientific folk that all act as though they've awoke hungover on a bleak monday morning.

 

I'm a dedicated biology major for the record lol... The scientific community, the pre-frontal-cortex-heavy civilized types... They've lost their ability to see their limits, and have thrown the baby out with the bathwater... And it all started with cats like your precious Caesar!

And in my opinion the savages survived well, poetically as well as nobly, but to each their own, our difference in opinion just means that there will be more room in crunchy communes for me and more room in proper modern apartments and houses for you so wins all around.
