  2. The one that infects someone you love. Especially if it is beautiful. Don’t you agree? Appearances are so important. I’ve just had an idea: delete this thread. I am morally appalled.

I would be the virus with the smallest known genome. Right now that's probably porcine circovirus with a DNA sequence of just 1768 pairs. That means the entire manual for this thing is written in less than 13 tweets, and is enough to kill another organism. That's just mindblowing… Here is the entire sequence:

    Code:

  7. Holy... less than a kilobyte of data and it's (kind of) alive. Mindblowing indeed.

Or maybe not. It's just about hacking the protein printer right? So there might be even shorter ones.

You might have to explain what a protein printer is... My biology is pretty basic! But I like the idea that you could make some designer virus that survives and reproduces with simplest possible genome. Kinda like the "Hello World" of viruses.

  9. My biology knowledge is nonexistent I just know that the replication works via transcription in the nucleus so the printer is the nucleus, maybe? I got the 'protein printer' expression from a meme:

Yeah. I don't know what exactly goes into tricking the cell into replicating the virus. But one nucleotide probably is not enough. That would be lame.

Haha killer meme. I haven't seen it before. Educational memes are the best.

One nucleotide would be jokes. My guess would be that nature would always strive for the short, elegant solution so ~1700 is probably near the minimum. I don't know if anyone is researching this but they should....
