On a moral level, no. But personally it’s as bad because it just leaves me in the same headspace as watching porn.

I think so. All of the same sexual signals, and the imploring for attention, are there, the only thing missing is the full nudity. It's just as addictive anyway, and I recently cleaned up my shit on Instagram: Only news, scenery and meme posts, with ZERO sexually suggestive comedy posts. I recommend it.

Based on how you use it, just block every triggering pictures, it has option "I don't want to see it", the more you click on it, more it filters your discovery wall. On my instagram there are very very few triggering pictures. But, it's other issue if you are following triggering pages, that's your problem, don't blame instagram.

Probably not AS bad but very bad nonetheless, it's just a milder form of porn

  6. Dude it's all there and pretty much the same. You're still viewing these women as objects and that's the root problem of porn addiction. For me, Facebook was a trigger and I had to eliminate it entirely. Plus, quitting social media had a lot of unexpected benefits!

I used to masturbate after seeing some suggestive pics on IG. Just after beggining the 90-days challenge, I cleaned up my IG but sometimes my friends uploads hot pics, but now I scroll that pictures quickly...

In my opinion, yes it is.
IG leads me to fap for many times (well, you know, hot girls). Come back to porn, fap, ig, and going repeatedly until i feel so down, i also got bored all the time.

That's why i delete my instagram and twitter. It is not good for me. Another reason is, instagram being so cancerous and salty. People tend to "flex" about what they have, and i spent my hours just to see it, and what do i get? nothing. I then replace it with quora and visit thia forum oftenly.

Yes, it is definitely as bad since watching pictures of pretty and lightly dressed women causes almost the same dopamine-spike as watching porn. Your brain cannot really distinguish between levels of porn and hence, you feel like you are almost getting as hyped up as from watching nude pictures. My advice is to stay away from (anti)social media as all it does is to bring you closer to a relapse.

you have to see it like this

50 hot instagram girl pictures = 1 hardcore porn video

also, if you keep visting instagram, you will never become PMO free

i speak from years of experience

can an alcoholic recover if he sips every night a couple of sips of beer?

    NO

the only thing this does is makes his desire for beer stronger and stronger untill he cracks, relapses, and feels like utter shit

and then do it all again next week

    so if you are serious

    instagram is not an option

It is not as bad but it is still quite bad, so it's not a recommended option. I've seen a dear friend end up quite miserable due to instagram thots.

Social media is your worse enemy when it comes to Nofap . . . I would get 100 days in before going back to instagram in my opinion . . .

    Too many triggers . . . it's like fighting a boxer with 1 hand . . . just my thought . . .

  15. In a way, it can be worse from the perspective of a compulsive user. Because you're rationalising. It happens to me all the fucking time. I don't really watch porn. But I get a rush from 'artistic' nudity and psubs. Then I talk myself into thinking that it's fine and normal.

It maybe normal and harmless for people that don't need this forum, but for me, Instagram is the same as porn.

Think about light drinking. Surely it's perfectly normal to have a can of cider with your dinner once in a while. There's barely any alcohol in it. So many people do it. But you absolutely cannot do that as an alcoholic.

If you're fighting yourself you will lose. Because you're fighting your own will, your own belief system. You'll relapse over and over and over again if you think this is about fighting. Urges are a symptom, not the cause of your addiction. The cause lies in the value that you give to porn.

I don't care about triggers at all. You can trigger me all day long, with instagram, real porn, Game of Thrones, hot chicks on the street, I don't care, it makes zero difference to me. Because after two years of trying to quit I finally admitted that the only reason I had to fight myself was because I still wanted it. Not because I'm "addicted". I've changed that and now the fight is over. All I gotta do is wait for my brain to heal, but that's like watching a wound close, it does it all by itself and doesn't hurt.

Trust me, if you're fighting urges and avoid triggers you're approaching this the wrong way and you'll always be in danger of relapse.
The comparison to alcoholism is unfortunately way too popular on this forum. Here is why it doesn't work:
Drinking alcohol is not a basic drive! Finding sexual release is! That makes a big difference in how a porn addiction differs from alcoholism from a psychological perspective. A humans lust is an integral part of our psyche with its own belief system and goals which seeks out sexual release. Alcohol on the other hand is more like an addon to the fun seeking part of a human.

My point is simply that there's two main ways to deal with your addiction. One is avoidance and the other is understanding. Obviously I'm convinced that the ladder is superior to the former.
Avoidance is straight forward. Porn causes problems -> avoid porn and anything similar at all costs. Do that for so long (which for some people might be half of their fucking lifetime) until you forget to a large degree how fun it is and fill your life with less harmful practices instead. Downsides? You become anxious of triggers which means you become anxious of yourself. A part of you, your lust, becomes an enemy which you have to fight daily! As if that's not bad enough you're in constant danger of relapsing and you can't enjoy pop culture entertainment anymore because it's littered with eroticism. But hey, at least you don't have to think with this approach and it supposedly gets easier after an indefinite amount of time has passed.

Understanding is not so straight forward. You need to be brutally honest with your motivations to watch porn. You need to change it's position in your personal hierarchy of thing that you value. As long as porn has a high value to you, which doesn't change just by abstinence, you can relapse any moment. All you need is one good memory, a "trigger".
Understanding is about realizing why you want porn (there's more to it than arousal, it's as complex as a relationship with a woman) and about destroying all the delusions you have about porn (the rose-colored glasses you wear when you're in love) and accepting that it will always be fun to PMO but that the costs are too high.
Downsides? It's not easy to understand your unconscious. Upsides? Relapse is not an option anymore, triggers are meaningless, no mental battles and you trust yourself because you know what you want.

Yeah it is important to stop glamorizing and glorifying looking at porn in your head. "Man it would feel so good to go watch porn right now" . Sure it would for your addiction. But you know how you will feel afterwards. You gained nothing and just prolonged your abstaining.
