Is instagram just as bad as porn?

No it's instagram. A place where people post pictures of things they like. Some people like curvy girls and so there are pictures of curvy girls.
I have a question: You as a person, not as "Fapstronaut", are you allowed to enjoy the sight of a curvy girl in your life?
If no, well then you're a monk and belong into a monastery, not on the street with all the normal people.
If you say technically yes, but you're afraid it will trigger you to your addiction, then you should stay at home every day, because there's curvy girls on the street too. And on TV. And in art.
If you use instagram to get off, well then you might as well use porn. It's obviously superior.

So what's your point?

The reason why I want to abstain from this kind of mild content is because I don't want to be aroused by something artificial. I don't want to arouse my brain with imagery on the internet. It is asocial and creates attachment to something that is unrealistic and simulated. I only want to keep my interest in real humans.

 

Instagram is just softcore porn....bunch of women photoshopped/makeup to the max showing off an untouchable beauty and body you will probably never get. Nothing wrong with looking at a beautiful woman here and there but is it any better than porn when you jump from woman to woman on instagram? I see the same pattern with that as porn...it all leads down one road at the end.

 

I mean first off all we're talking about a very particular branch of Instagram to be fair.
Also with the erotic content there are different branches. There are sexy cosplayers for example who don't only aim at eroticism but also at a fantasy genre. Some are more erotic some less, but they're all aware how beauty matters and so they pay attention to it when they create the photo.

I agree that it's a trap you can fall into, when a similar behavioral pattern emerges like when scanning through porn for the right material. But aside from that pattern, we do enjoy the view of a beautiful woman on a photo or even a painting and I don't think there's anything wrong with that in and off itself. So I think we should make a distinction between eroticism and porn.
Also between something like Game of Thrones and porn, where in GoT pornographic scenes are there to tell a story.
Porn (in 99/100 cases) doesn't try to be artsy or to tell a story, it's just here to push the button period.

 

I've never signed up for instagram and I won't sign up for it. Why would I spend my time looking at pictures people have taken (and altered) in their daily lives when I can instead spend that time enjoying beautiful real-life experiences in my own daily life.

 

I agree but from what I have been reading here a lot of men on nofap lack the willpower to sort a sexy cosplay photo and porn, a curvy body and a revealing outfit might just be the ticket to relapsville for many users.

I will admit I have never used instagram but fact is porn is still major over there, and if it recommends pictures based off what you are clicking I would wager a rather large % will end up on the PMO express again. Fact is looking up hot women for 20 minutes is no different then looking up porn, it might not be as much of a dopamine train but you are still riding the train and encouraging old pathways, which puts you back on behaviors you tried so hard to fix.

It can be. It depends on what gets you off. For me, IG is porn because I have a foot fetish and there's literally hundreds of thousands of ladies displaying their feet on there. I used to have a profile where I was following nothing but "foot models" so every post I scrolled past was potential fodder for my brain. It got to the point to where I downloaded apps to save whole instagram profiles including their stories and live feeds. I'm sure if you looked hard enough you could find just about anything that would be considered traditional porn if IG hasn't flagged it yet.

Well I agree it's not as great as it seemed to be when it first started. And it's not a safe place for people to go and have some fun.
You need a thick skin. The main issue is that it plays with peoples primal need to have decent position within the social hierarchy. And beautiful images on Facebook and Instagram that depict your friends seemingly perfect life make that very difficult. So that primal system (which is 350 million years old btw) constantly floods the users with cortisol making them stressed out because in comparison they think they're not cool enough.

But on the other hand people are way too sensitive nowadays. They take shit much too serious, many have lost the ability to laugh about themselves which is tragic.

For a reasonable person, social media shouldn't pose any kind of problem.

I think the point here is that, if it is a trap for YOU as an individual, then you better steer clear of it - no matter what the intent of the producer of the content was.

 

If you go from picture to picture looking for hot women, even fully dressed, to masturbate to (like I have) then it's pretty much the same as porn. You're still artificially stimulating those reward centers in the brain.

Thanks for this perspective - this is exactly my biggest challenge. I am off of porn - despise it! But the damn 'artistic' stuff and psubs is such a bitch to manage sometimes. Today has been one of those days. But here I am - still standing. So fuck that then - my streak stands and I have moved on again. Just keep moving - don't get stuck there!
