I lost in, then I went PMO free. On day 348, when I needed it, I had it back.
For me, to regain it, do not PM it.

Great thread and even better replies, I was just wondering about the same thing.

I've mentioned NoFap to a few people so far but they don't get it, they mock it and make all kinds of excuses as to why they M and that they "can stop whenever they want". But all of us here know that's not the case, you don't have to PMO for 12 hours a day to have an addiction, I've seen newcomers on this site claiming they're not addicted and it's funny because they end up relapsing and struggling just as much as everyone else.

I've relapsed recently after an 117 days streak and I must say that M doesn't feel good at all, I don't quite get it. It only feels "better" when my brain actively seeks new ways to M (that momentary dopamine high) and it leads to a single second of "pleasure" that no longer feels good (if it ever did for that matter).

M robs me of my good mood, energy and willpower, it's a poisonous behavior.

  4. So back in the day (like Victorian age and prior) masturbation was called "self pollution" and often treated lke a mental disorder. Apparently people just didn't do it. It's alway been frowned upon by many religions as well. Puritanical overzealousness? Maybe. These days psychologists tell us "It's perfectly normal, everyone does it, it's natural. It relieves stress. It keeps the plumbing working. Etc etc etc.

I don't think 100 years ago or earlier people had much time to masturbate. Too much work too be done. Too busy trying to get food on the table. Now we have so many modern conveniences that we have tons of leisure time. And we live in such a hypersexualized society. I can't go to the store w/o seeing scantily clad women on magazines. TV has them all over the place--sex scenes on prime time shows, soft ore porn on cable channels. Women at the gym in skin tight outfits (god I love yoga pants!). So these have he time, we have more "permission" and we have the source material.

I think it is normal for us as teens to M. Our hormones are off the charts. But I think we're supposed to "grow out of it" so to speak. I don't think nature intended us to spend hours on end beating our meat or rubbing one in. Mother Nature wants that baby batter putting buns in the oven.

So I guess my final thoughts is no, we don't need to masturbate and we certainly shouldn't be doing it with the frequency many of us (and even non-fapstronaunts) do.

I've heard that regular orgasm reduces the risk of testicular cancer. Anyone know anything more about this?

  6. Have not but I'm happy to be a participant in that study.

Yes, controlled masturbation is not that bad or unhealthy according to me. It should be done according to your body want, not to your filthy mind's greed and whims. If you really want to do masturbation, do it without watching or thinking any porn materials. In my case, PMO have turned my life upside down. This happened because of the invisible tentacles of the monster called 'PORN'. Porn stories and videos will eat your body and mind without your permission. They are termites and eat whole wood without a trace. It will lead to a circle where you will go round and round. There is a cycle of starts and ends.... but no logical exit. You will live in your world where other priorities vanish and melt like wax in your hot psyche. You will always appear to be cool and gentle to the outside world. But when you are alone, your mind will transform into a blood thirsty Dracula. It will get pleasure to see unrealistic stories, video and images. You will never be contented or satisfied with for a long time just like increasing dosages of painkiller for a persistent recurring pain. You will love the pain unknowingly and so the painkiller medicine. You will see higher level of perverse pornography. This will drain you mentally and physically. You will feel cheated when you lose everything in a roller coaster ride in a Casino. Ultimately you will be the loser. Mind it, you will be a loser. I am telling from my experience.... PMO does not give anything except daydreams... you will eventually become a Hollow Man!!!

So masturbation in moderation is like eating only one chip in a bag of potato chips? Makes sense.

  9. Anything in moderation is usually good. Why should stroking the salmi be any different?

We've allowed ourselves to become addiction ridden as a culture: food, sex, retail, gambling, drugs, money, technology. It's the flip side of a prospering capitalist society. A race of addicts running around snorting pills, jerking off, running credit cards to the limit on Amazon, hurting our loved ones and slowly crushing our souls.

Okay, after this thread I'm seriously thinking about giving up masturbation forever, not just to kil PIED and other PA-related problems.

    "Self-pollution spills the devil seed!"

The purpose of fap/pmo is simply to keep your sex drive down at a level you are comfortable with being at.

The problem with forcing oneself to have too high a sex drive for too long a time is that it encourages and can eventually lead to a significant "psychological detachment" away from it (ie sex drive). This is what prevents people from getting NoFap superpowers -- you can't take advantage of "high sex drive" if you're always behind a psychological "ten-foot-stick" away from it (basically, what happens when guys try to distance themselves from sexual frustration by simply ignoring it or trying to somehow distract themselves away from it).
