We'll find out if we stick it out. I'm bipolar and I'll be very interested to see if quitting porn and masturbation will lead to a more even keel so to speak.

My SO is bipolar... He was using porn to self medicate his mood swings.
So, that's the answer in his case... Now that he's p-free, he has to deal with his mental health issues.
I have always wondered this tho... Whether this was a normal response... Or not

I was depressed before porn. Porn is escapism.

  5. I think, well from personal experience, porn makes your symptoms worse. whether it actually causes depression and anxiety i'm not so sure but i'm pretty sure it wont make it any better. What you get from porn is a brief glimpse into a fantasy world that makes you feel high, intense arousal but we all have to come back down to earth and face the same problems that we may have been using porn to escape from in the first place

I think it depends honestly, when I first started at like the age of 14, I didn't suffer from any of that, now that I'm trying to get rid of this addiction I've had for almost a week a bout of deep depression and anxiety even though my social life, etc is getting better. I'm having the most horrible withdrawal symptoms and I think it's the brain trying to get me back into it. As a matter of fact I couldn't take it anymore and relapsed twice, fortunately I decided to leave and go to the gym and not go on a 3-4 hour binge like previous times.

So I think if you never suffered from it later it creates depression so that you can keep doing PMO and if you already suffered from depression I bet it's much worse.

They are both cause and effect. The stupid TV and media has dulled us into expecting everything to be black or white.

Clearly depression leads to PMO. And also a lot of bad decisions in all other aspects of life.

For me it was PMO first, and depression appeared because of PMO. For others it was the other way. But once you have both depression issues and PMO issue you need to handle both problems. Do not think that if you get rid of one the other will just disappear, both need to be addressed.

Porn just act like magnifying glass. If you had some (even very small) depression before porn, porn will magnify it and it will be much bigger afterwards.

But if you had no depression at all and you are happy with your life, porn will not cause any depression on it's own. It will just magnify but since there is nothing to magnify (no depression) you wont be depressed at all. At least that's how I notice that it works with me in past 2 years.

    Hi,
I can say with my personal experiment , we are always depressed but with porn is gone be worst , because inside of our mind we need this daily dose , but if we didn't haven"t that gone be a bad day , that is the wrong thing to do because that's depends on your intensity of your depression , more gone be high more you gone spend to much time to remove this craving.
After quitting porn , several things has improved , the first day of nofap i was little bit agressive and on depression that's is normal put after quitting porn i don't get angry very fast , i become more wiser , no more brain fog
Anyway , sometime or somewhere we gone have a stressful situation , so this why we need to conserve our energy ( spiritual,....) to be prepared , PMO gone drain it for sure and make the thing worst, find new hobbies , meditate for a couple of minute , use your smartphone and laptop and for a good purpose and but a sticker on your laptop or your smartphone as a reminder to quit this habit , if you want to be a little bit more productive after doing all you important tasks of the day , do some household or a relaxing activity that's gone affect you brain positively
    Good luck and Stay stong

I think it's both unfortunately. I finally realized for myself that porn was a way of escaping or tuning out, even to my detriment. If work was piling up and I was feeling overwhelmed and anxious, I would get on Omegle and get sucked into that world for hours and not think about how anxious I was about work. Meanwhile that just made the problem worse, as work piled up even more because I was on Omegle instead of getting work done. And the cycle would continue. I find that when I'm able to stop even for short periods of time, right now I'm on Day 9 of being clean, my whole outlook and view on life changes and gets much more positive. I'm kind of a nervous and anxious person by nature, so by no means do I expect that to completely change if I can make more progress on this addiction, but I do think it will get better and I'll have less to be so nervous and anxious about without this cloud of shame around my porn usage hanging over me.
