Is this flatline or am I cured and just prone to depression for the rest of my life?

    Hi guys,

Trying this out. 24 year old male with a really good life. High paying job, decent looking, get to workout every day and stay fit.

Should be really happy, but I'm not thanks to a lingering porn addiction that I realize now has been stifling my potential for years. It's gotten its worst this past year (PIED for the first time in my life, making no friends, no girls, etc), so I then realized porn is the problem, and now I'm prioritizing this to everything else in my life.

I stopped 4 days ago, and I've had no urges since then. No sexual attraction to women, slight depression. No real passion to succeed or drive that I know I used to have. Lots of anxiety.
But there are happy flashes, especially when I'm at the gym or doing something great at work.
But it doesn't seem nearly as bad as what some other flatliners have I described.

I'm really worried I'm already 'rebooted' (its been 4 days but maybe my addiction wasn't that bad?). Does this feel like flatline or am I doomed? Really freaking out here. Also pretty high lol

Severity of my problem: I used to FAP about 1-2 times a day for about a year until the very last few months before nofap where I would edge for an hour or so a day without fapping (thats when it got its absolute worst)

  2. Hi. Welcome to forum!

Generally speaking you are rebooted fully when you have healthy sexual attraction to women, can easy get erection with women and no desire to watch porn and (depending from your goals) to masturbate. Nobody can reboot in 4 days. On average it takes around 90 days for people. It is possible that you were not addicted to begin with? Sure. In which case it should be easy to permanently stay away from porn and/or (depending from your goals) masturbation for the rest of your life. So just do that. As far as PIED, that will take at least few weeks. Things like anxiety and depression should also improve or completely vanish.

Anyways, make sure you create a personal journal thread in Reboot Logs section and blog there on a regular basis. As well as just generally be active participant in various forum discussions. I recommend this to everybody new here because it's the major thing that helped me when I was first starting. Just lurking on forums, reading and learning is great. But it usually is so much more powerful to engage. It helps to keep us motivated and accountable when we are active part of community. And keeps this in front of our minds so we don't forget about importance of it and slip away in our old habits. Sharing is also therapeutic. This is a major reason why AA meetings work so good. But that was developed before internet era. These days we can get most of the same benefits online through communities like this. So don't underestimate the power of active participation.

I would also like to suggest you to look into mindfulness meditation. It has helped me personally tremendously to learn how to deal with urges and triggers. It takes a while to get good at it and notice results, so you need to be consistent with it, but once you do it's very powerful. It has been used by sages for thousands of years to deal with various issues of the mind. And in recent decades the science is also catching up to what ancient sages have know for centuries. Meditation these days are widely used as very effective tool by psychologists for treating addiction and by neurologists for supporting recovery of the brain. It is a great exercise for the brain the same way as jogging is great exercise for the body. Check out this Ted talk, it gives a good idea of what's it about when it comes to philosophy. As far as practical side of it there is this awesome smartphone app called Headspace for guided meditations to get you started.

Wish you lot's of strength and success in your reboot journey!

Wow thanks for that great reply! I have been trying to get into meditation and already subtly notice the effects. Excited to keep doing it

Today I was looking into EMI waves and how it could be helpful to sleep in a faraday cage. I might try that because I gave up drugs, alcohol, sugar, gluten, caffeine, PMO, and lots of other stuff for years, and still have tinnitus and lots of other symptoms. Maybe I'm electro-sensitive.
