K9 web protection > accessing public WiFi

    Have installed k9 recently but unfortunately it has the side effect of completing blocking access when there's a landing page for public WiFi.

    This makes sense: the program needs to access its own servers in order to assess whether a page should be blocked or not. In other words, I can only worth when I have the password to a WiFi network. If I want to go study in a Starbucks, for example, it's impossible.

    Does anyone know of a workaround for this? Or could anyone suggest a similar program that functions slightly differently?

    Love k9 as I'm not enough of a techie to figure out how to assess blocked pages, but every other filter I've tried seems wayyy too easy to just uninstall.

    Does K9 have a custom 'whitelist' option where you can add the URL for Starbucks' landing page?

    That obviously wouldn't help you with other public access points, and it might be hard to find the exact URL you'd need to use ... but it might work, and it would be useful if 95% of your public browsing is at Starbucks.
