Let's Discuss Edging

Discussion in 'Porn Addiction Recovery' started by Deleted Account, Oct 12, 2023.

  1. I want to zoom in and focus on edging. Let's single this activity/habit out.

In this thread, forget about masturbation with or without porn if and when there's no edging involved.

    First, let's define EDGING:
It is an orgasm control technique which involves the maintenance of high levels of sexual arousal for an extended period of time without reaching orgasm; it is a tool to delay, sometimes indefinitely, the onset of ejaculation which may or may not lead to "blue balls."
    • How has edging affected you?
    • Has it harmed you physically or otherwise?
    • Are your nervous and endocrine systems functioning normally?
    • Are you familiar with Hyperprolactinemia? Do you have it?
    • Do you suffer with hormonal imbalance?
I've been edging for at least a decade and I attribute a somewhat exhaustive list of my physical symptoms to it.

Edging fueled my masturbation problems. Was terrible at edging but did it anyways. What’s the point of doing it, idk, but I’ve done it anyways.

  4. Do you think that it has caused you any issues aside from exacerbating addiction or dependence?

I haven’t done it in like 3 years…but it kinda enhanced my Death Grip and hurt overall stimulation. Wasted a lot of time. Made me lazier too. Didn’t do it like addictive- level frequently but there was a point during the pandemic when I did 3-5 times a week for over 30 mins at a time, if I remember well.

Edging is worst than MO because you are flooding your brain with an unnatural amount of dopamine.

I literally don't have motivation to work anymore because my brain just wants that edging rush.

I checked my blood work and prolactin is fine.

But I just cant focus and I have serious withdrawal symptoms.

Am in the process of healing/rewiring my brain.

If you are reading this, take it seriously! Don't fk around with edging as it will destroy your normal brain function and take months (even a year) to fix.

  7. I can't seem to motivate myself either. I also can't focus. And just like you, I attribute a lot of that to edging.

What are the serious withdrawal symptoms you mentioned? I'm curious.

  8. It's true what you said, the remaining question is this:
When you watch that and you edge, you compare yourself to those P.Actor who are performing and there is a certain subconscipus comparison between you and them, they seem to last longer and they are also having S** for a long period of time almost like they are edging, so you indulge in it as well thinking that you are doing a similar thing that they are doing.

I have a question though, when they do such thing - is that also considered edging ? And does it hurt their brain as well - like when someone is edging ?

I would love to hear an answer.

  9. In short: Edging is much worst than Masterbation and it's very very dangerous for the brain, it will destroy it and hurt and it will take much longer to heal!

Once your brains reward centers are hijacked, by definition you are "addicted".

So "any" type of stimulation will trigger you.

This is why quitting cold turkey is so important.

When your brain is trying to convince you that "Oh this is okay", thats the addiction trying to get its fix.

  12. edging is the worst.
crazy bad headaches, dehydration, hunger (and then food binging). Ive also hurt my leg / ankle / hand / wrist many times cuz I get completely detached from my body.
lots of fatigue, brain fog (bigtime), missed appts and calls, you name it
its PMO slavery in its purest form, hell on earth.

  13. That's the Ultimate PMO Addiction. ---> The worst of the worst.

  14. On the otherside we've got sexologist explaining that it is a cure for premature ejaculation, especially for does who suffer from it, any debate on this ?

    - I'm not defending it!

Yeah, edging seems so much more damaging than M or O to me. I mean, for hours at a time, you are slowly rewiring your brain to want pixels over a real, existing human. You are developing techniques to tweak the flow of a chemical to just the right levels to maximize the "enjoyment" of every session. I can ruin my brain this way for half an afternoon, then spend 20 seconds "finishing."

Compare that with being a healthy male where you might occasionally have a build-up of sexual energy and go into the bathroom for a couple of minutes to address the need. Then you move on with your life. The experience is so minimal in terms of time, energy, physical desensitization, emotional make-believe, rewiring, etc., that there is no long-term damage.

Edging is SO much worse, IMHO. And it's why my sobriety counter is based not on how long I've gone since PMO, but since I last edged. I guarantee that if I stop edging first, stopping unhealthy PMO will come naturally.

    This is debatable.

Are you addicted or have you thought your brain to buffer / suppress your negative emotions with porn? If you are truly addicted, you have a bigger problem than if the latter is the case. Go one time to a rehabcenter with "real" addicted people (you know what I talk about). My proposition is that far out the majority of the people here is not actually addicted but buffers their negative emotions with porn, like the pavlov's dogs. Uhum...that sounds a bit strange :D. I mean it's an analogy, pavlov trained the dogs to salivate at the ring of the bell, just as we trained our brains to watch porn to buffer negative emotions. The cool thing about that experiment was that pavlov also trained the dogs not to want the food anymore. And so you can train you brain not to want porn anymore. So addiction or bad habit? It's for you to decide. But I will call my problem a bad habit, because the chances of recovery are much greater than. If one is really addicted, which means one can not hold a somewhat normal life, then therapy is required. If it is a bad habit dependently how serious it is you need a good coach or you can learn your way out of it yourself.

Wow, such a great way you said this. I make a mental note of it, that next time I find myself in a situation that it is clearly I am going to edge, instead just go to the bathroom and finish it of. After it there is no point anymore in edging. So it's the way best of 2 bad things.

I've actually thought about this quite a bit: The idea of just finishing as quickly as possible. But I decided that it wasn't a solution for me.

    1. My brain won't allow me to do that. It's used to getting a LOT of dopamine over a prolonged edging session and it knows that it won't get much if I just try to reach orgasm as quickly as possible. It forces me to take my time. So for me, turning off the spigot altogether is the best approach.

    2. For me, edging means that I am objectifying women. I'm imagining them and/or myself engaged in sexual activity that they would never participate in and I don't like doing that. It's not the type of person I am at heart, but it is something the addiction causes me to do. When I am at my cleanest, my view of women is also at its healthiest. I recognize those instances when I treat women as the beautiful creatures they are and want to guarantee that I always do that.

    3. I want to break the cycle of having to make up porn in my bed to get off with my girlfriend. I should be there with her 100% in body, mind and soul. If I'm not, then I'm just using her. I need to stop masturbating to porn (viewed or imagined) and start rewiring myself to be attracted to what nature intended that I really be turned on by.

  19. Any answers to this ?

I guess this is where the problem starts:

When you see these P.Actors doing that! You monkey brain's says: Monkey see Monkey do...
And the dopamine turns it into a habit loop.

I'm not insulting anyone by giving this short descripition of what the mind does, we are all friends in here and we are here to help each other, best of luck to you all.

My feeling is that P actors have been physically desensitized over time. They can last forever because it doesn't feel that great (if even good) anymore. Who knows how a video is edited other than to say that they are all made to look like star performers. For all we know, they could be pulling out and just touching themselves with their eyes closed for ten minutes while everyone waits for the money shot because they are messed up as we are.

I have never personally compared myself to an actor (size- or performance-wise). I think I understand what makes a woman feel good and am okay with doing my best with what I was given. And I'm not afraid to ask her what she likes as well. After all, I'm there to serve her.

Porn is fake. Every part of it.
