    Hi all,

I have decided to make a positive step in my life to improve and maintain my relationships and take care of myself. Will be abstaining from porn and masturbation. I can already tell that this seems like an incredibly supportive community and I am excited to be a part of it! Keep up the great work, everyone, we're all in this together!

Hello, welcome to the community! It is good to have you here.

I can recommend you for a start to start writing a journal. It is a great way to really know yourself. To observe your progress, learn on your mistakes and deal with emotions. You can start your journal here. First, read a few other journals to see how others are doing it.

I wish you good luck on your journey. Stay strong!!

    hI 'namby (and '75 too).

One of the most important and helpful things you can do when getting started on your journey is to think really hard about what your goals are and how you will keep them in the forefront of your mind. Its very easy to lose sight of why we are on our journeys and when that happens, relapses often follow.

There are lots of suggestions on what works and doesn't work for the journeys. Frankly, you'll have to learn what works best for you - so try some of the suggestions and learn what is working and not working for you.

A good place to find some helpful support is a posting by @bike-wrench (sorry I can't figure out how to give you a direct link) He posted a link to what he calls his screed some in a thread "jesus man my streak is gone" in the relapse and reset forum. His comments and suggestions are very much worth reading.

Good job ! Keep going. If you face urges or temptations, have a plan ready to deploy to fight the urge or trigger. Maybe changing your physical location (go for a walk), coming here to read / post, reading a chapter in a book (no P or Psubs !!!!) or something else to get you mentally and physically apart from the trigger.

    hi '112.

Good. But have you thought about your plans, goals, objectives, and how you'll respond to triggers and urges ? Trust me, there WILL be some difficult times. Being prepared with a quick-to-deploy plan when you face urges or temptations is a great way to avoid relapses. So what are you going to do ?

Great question! My goal is never again. So far I will be using these daily posts to keep myself accountable, and the panic button if I feel things getting to close. I may be adapting the strategy as time progresses, or I find that I am in need of more dramatic measures.

    Hi '112 !

Keep you goals alway in the front of your mind. When we lose sight of our goals, bad things often happen (... like relapses).

Its good that you recognize your tactics for dealing with urges may need to be revised as you continue your journey. We change along the way. To continue without getting off-course, we really do sometimes need to change our ways of dealing with situations because either the situations change or our previously-effective tools no longer work.

Have you thought about what other tools you can add to your defenses ? Now would be a good time.
