Not many people talk about Maladaptive daydreaming, even though there are many people that suffer from this "condition". In this post I want to make this problem known and I want you to tell me your experiences with it. So that we get aditional understanding and find solutions.

I would want to start this post with a little excerpt from Wikipedia.

    "
Maladaptive daydreaming, also known as excessive daydreaming, is a disordered form of dissociative absorption associated with vivid and excessive fantasy activity that often involves elaborate and fanciful scenarios."

Maladaptive daydreaming is typically associated with stereotypical movements, such as pacing or rocking, and the need for musical stimulation. One of the lead researchers of maladaptive daydreaming and the person who coined the term is University of Haifa professor Eli Somer. Somer's definition of the condition is “extensive fantasy activity that replaces human interaction and/or interferes with academic, interpersonal, or vocational functioning.”

It has been my escape for years. I can't even remember my first time.
The urges of masturbation are long gone now. But I still crave for that dopamine hit.
So everytime I feel down I listen to music and imagine an scenario where I help everyone and archieve a... cathartic end.

I'm having urges to just listen to music while I imagine, basically an action movie.

I would like to have someone to talk about these experiences and a solution. Take it as a PMO challenge. But instead is a NO DAY DREAMING CHALLENGE.

I can totally relate to what you're going through. As a matter of fact, I think that both porn addiction and maladaptive daydreaming are intertwined as both are behavioral addictions, they help in escaping from the harsh realities that we live in. I personally, have tried journalling and meditation to combat MD.

That's a movie I've been meaning to watch based on a serious form of maladaptive daydreaming.

Now that I got that out of the way, yeah I used to too, though it wasn't something needing medical attention with me. Sometimes I still do but since it started, it has transformed from daydreaming to just spacing out and not "being" any where really. It's super sucky but I'm working on being "here" more often and when I space out I've started telling myself "NO Dim, you're HERE not anywhere else. You're in the PRESENT."
About 3 years ago when I was seeing a counselor they suggested perhaps I have Petit Mal because of my spacing out but I was pretty sure and still am pretty sure that I DO have control over whether or not I "stay" when I space out. That and my mother told me that she experienced stuff like that in her teenage years too so either we're both okay or we both have it XD

I totally agree with y'all that it's an escape and a not so good coping mechanism for shyness. It's nice to know that I'm not alone in this but at the same time it's not nice to know that I'm not alone (because as you guys know, daydreaming ain't fun after the finish).

I might join the challenge later once I get other things sorted in my life like working out consistently.

Working out and focusing on perfect form is one of the things that brings me "here". Another thing that helped me back when I did it but also helps when I mess around with what I remember from it is martial arts. Me personally I did a bit of Kenjutsu (weeb Ik) and seeing how each kata could be a path into the other ones was really cool. There was and still is a certain elegance to how well it flows that is really attractive about it. A more accessible form of this would be HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts for those who don't know), the majority of which teaches you how to use a standard longsword. Even more accessible are Krav Maga or Brazilian Jiu Jitsu as they've picked up momentum and popularity over the last few years, but I haven't got to try them yet.

    Also see: Archery.

I suppose they help because there's something cool about them so I don't have to imagine since I have to focus on doing something right for it be cool in my head, instead of focusing on cool things that "could" happen.

P.S: Sorry for the short essay :D
