You both make excellent points! I think I can sum up what you said about this modern and materialistic age as the age of 'seeing people and experiences as a means to an end'. The journey doesn't matter anymore. You get shortcuts to the things you obsess over, and you get tired of them, then you move to another and you get tired of that as well. In the end, a person who is like that can take pride in the number of things he's grown tired of in his lifetime. You have no need of virtue if you aim to get results. Soon you become a parasite that restlessly pursues things and never gets a moment of peace and reflection.

But aside from the fact that not everyone is like this, there's another bright side of all this: again, fapstronauts are commendable in that not only they're successfully on their way to conquering the most difficult habit (said by people who are addicts to other things), they are reversing in their lives this process of corruption and egoism. Nofap isn't just quitting masturbation and porn. In fact, you need to have some virtues as self-discipline, prudence, and seeing girls as human beings again to complete the challenge. You can't see girls as sex objects and let go of PMO. The vices are related to each other, and so are the virtues. Once you gain enough distance from PMO, you are set on another path.
